Fillers - Part I []

Kakashi and Guy impostors

Kakashi surprises the fake Guy and Lee.

In episode 161, while Guy and Lee are out on an expedition, two spies from another village take the opportunity to disguise themselves as the pair. As they are not actual ninjas, they use obviously fake disguises instead of a transformation jutsu, and their physiques are nothing like the real Guy and Lee.

The first to talk to the pair of impostors is Kakashi, who notes with amusement that something seems off about the two of them today. They "introduce" themselves as Guy and Lee and try to play it off to Kakashi, until they eventually panic and flee.

Kakashi reports in to Tsunade about them, although he agreed that they were so ridiculous and obvious that they posed no real threat.

In episode 202, during a list of the top 5 battles in the series hosted by Naruto and Sakura, Kakashi vs Guy's battle is listed as one of the honorable mentions of fights that were awesome but did not quite make it into the top five. However, the "fight" shown to be referenced is their rock-paper-scissors battle, which Naruto is surprised counts as a battle at all.

Fillers - Part II[]

Big Adventure! The Quest for the Fourth Hokage’s Legacy![]

Kakashi and Guy 171 stand

Kakashi and Guy meet up after the genin's search ends.

In episode 171, after Naruto, Sakura, Ino, Choji, and Shikamaru's adventure for the fourth hokage's legacy has come to a somewhat disappointing end, Guy is seen walking up to Kakashi, who is still training Sasuke. Kakashi meets him halfway, both men standing on either side of Sasuke.

Kakashi tells Guy he did a good job, and Guy responds, "Sure thing," saying that it was good training for the kids before they entered the final rounds of the chunin exams. Kakashi agrees, adding that it gave them the chance to properly assess their skills and their jutsu.

Ep171

Kakashi waves to Guy as he heads off with Sasuke.

Kakashi scolds Sasuke, telling him that he is telling too long to master his new jutsu and that, as a result, it would be ready in time for the exams. Sasuke begins to walk off. Kakashi calls out to Guy, telling him that he and Sasuke were going to go continue their training some more. Waving and turning around, Kakashi follows after Sasuke.

Guy nods and grins, striking a Nice Guy Pose and telling Kakashi to leave the rest to him.

Apparently, the entire misadventure had been set up by Guy under Kakashi's knowledge, so they worked together to train/mess with their students.

Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown[]

Kakagai 219

Guy catches Kakashi during a moment of introspection and worry.

In episode 219 of Naruto Shippuden, Koharu and Homura decide to elect Kakashi as their next Hokage, since the Shinobi Alliance needed them to quickly decide on their village's leader before they could properly prepare for the upcoming war. Koharu and Homura advise Kakashi to have a confidant he can trust so he doesn't have to shoulder the burden alone, giving Hiruzen and Danzo as an example.

Kakashi walks through the village pensively, staring up at Hokage Mountain and specifically to the stone statue of his old teacher Minato, the fourth hokage. Kakashi reflects on the news that he would be becoming the next hokage soon since Tsunade was still indisposed and Danzo had been killed.

Kakashi and Guy 219 checkup (7)

Kakashi lets Guy check for injuries.

Kakashi is contemplative, with complex feelings on the matter, when Guy suddenly appears. He playfully shoves Kakashi forward, then pulls Kakashi into a hug from behind and asks Kakashi if he's made it back home safely from before. He spins Kakashi around, checking for injuries, and fluffing up his hair. Kakashi allows him to do so, even bending his knees so Guy could more easily play with Kakashi's hair.

Kakashi and Guy 219 why (3)

Kakashi asks Guy why he wants to have a contest now.

Once Guy is sure enough that Kakashi is indeed okay, Guy spins around and dramatically challenges Kakashi to a long-awaited competition, much to Kakashi's confusion. When pressed to tell Kakashi why they needed to do a contest then and there, Guy just said that they had to, as eternal rivals. Kakashi agrees, assuming it will be something simple like Rock-Paper-Scissors again.

In perfect sync, he and Guy dance and prepare to play a round of Rock-Paper-Scissors, but before they throw out their hands, Guy stops in protest and says that this time, he absolutely cannot accept that as their choice of contest. Kakashi narrows his eyes tiredly.

Kakashi and Guy 219 janken (9)

Kakashi and Guy dance in sync before their Rock-Paper-Scissors match.

Instead of Rock-Paper-Scissors, Guy insists this challenge be a race to the top of Hokage Rock where Lee is waiting by the Goal.

Kakashi wonders if now is really the time to do such a ridiculous challenge when the village was being rebuilt and Kakashi was going to become Hokage soon. Guy argues that that's exactly the reason why they have to compete right then and there. Guy asks Kakashi to accept the challenge as his eternal rival.

Kakashi and Guy 219 now (13)

Kakashi chuckles and agrees to the race.

Kakashi blinks and glances at Guy, thinking on it for a few more seconds before he finally agrees to the race, apparently understanding Guy's reasoning for why now is the perfect time. Kakashi chuckles and says that Guy is right, there was no time like the present.

With that agreed, Kakashi and Guy fist bump, then give each other a high-five.

Kakashi and Guy 219 fistbump (12)

Kakashi and Guy's handshake.

Kakashi asks why they're starting the race all the way back at the entrance of the village, and Guy answers that it's so they can enjoy the contest to the fullest. Guy asks Kakashi if he's ready to start, and Kakashi says they can go anytime.

Guy tosses a rock, and as soon as it hits the ground, both of them start running at top speed, going head to head and sounding very enthused for the race. They laugh and taunt each other while they run down a steep incline.

Kakashi and Guy 219 running (1)

The race begins.

While they leap over a large gap, Kakashi throws trash at Guy's head to throw off his concentration. Kakashi admits that he'd gathered up supplies from a pile of rubble before they started their race. Guy says that that's not fair, but quickly gets into the swing of things, grinning and returning the attack full fore by throwing back everything Kakashi throws at him.

Kakagai 219

Kakashi and Guy laugh and throw trash at each other.

Guy and Kakashi laugh and continue until both of them are just throwing junk at each other while they tumble into ungraceful landings, hitting the ground and dropping all of their ammo and Kakashi's book.

They both get their footing back and resume the race as soon as they hit the ground.

Kakashi and Guy 219 shikacho (1)

Shikamaru and Choji see Kakashi and Guy race past.

Choji and Shikamaru are sitting and eating chips together when the two jonin jump right over them during the race. Stunned, Choji and Shikamaru wonder if something has happened.

Kakashi and Guy continue to run through the village, jumping over and under people and buildings and navigating through the ruins and the new construction. They duck and weave through all the half-finished construction and newly built roads, surprising everyone in their wake. Guy laughs and notes that with all the new construction going on, he can't tell where they're going, and Kakashi agrees.

Kakashi and Guy 219 narusaku (4)

Naruto and Sakura watch Kakashi and Guy race past them.

Naruto and Sakura stop and stare when they notice Kakashi and Guy running by on rooftops. Both are amazed at their speed.

Tenten and Neji realize right away that this must be yet another one of their challenges, Neji saying that "they're at it again." Tenten correctly guesses that Guy is the one who challenged Kakashi to a rivalry contest again, and says that now is not the time for it. Neji disagrees. He smiles and says that the current state of things is exactly why Guy has chosen now to challenge Kakashi, perfectly mirroring Guy's earlier statement to Kakashi. Tenten asks Neji to elaborate.

Kakagai 219

"Just what I expect from my rival!"

Kakashi and Guy leap into the air, and Guy compliments Kakashi's performance, saying that he'd expect nothing less from his rival. However, Guy says that this challenge is only just beginning. Kakashi enthusiastically agrees.

They reach the base of Hokage Mountain and begin running straight up its steep edge, criss-crossing into each other's path.

Meanwhile, Lee does pushups by the finish line and waits for the jonin to arrive.

Kakashi and Guy 219 lee tape (2)

Lee judges as Kakashi and Guy cross the finish line.

When Lee hears them approach as they near Hokage Rock, he stands at attention and watches closely to see who will cross the goal's ribbon first. The race remains neck and neck, with the two crossing the finish line at almost the exact same time, so Guy has to rely on Lee's assessment to determine the winner. Kakashi and Guy stand as the cloud of dust dissipates and Guy asks Lee who crossed the line first.

Kakashi and Guy 219 glance (3)

Guy blushes and grins while he and Kakashi wait to hear the results of the race.

Lee twitches and grins, leading Guy to excitedly blush and return the grin with the impression that Lee was happy for him. Guy looks between Kakashi and Lee boucily and holds a thumbs up in premature victory.

However, Lee finally announces that the winner is Kakashi, much to Guy's disappointment. Guy dramatically falls headfirst to the ground in shock, and Kakashi watches. Kakashi smiles and cheekily says how much he enjoyed the contest, but he's suddenly surprised when Guy presents him a bouquet of flowers and congratulates him.

Kakagai 219

Guy congratulates Kakashi.

At first, Kakashi assures Guy that winning a race like this isn't worth being presented with flowers, so Guy explains that the flowers and the congratulations are for his new position as Hokage. Kakashi is visibly surprised.

Since the Hokage would be too busy to indulge Guy's rivalry contests as Kakashi had been for all these years, Guy explains that this was their final chance to have one more battle and settle the score between them. He also wanted to thank Kakashi for taking part in their rivalry for all these years.

Kakagai 219

Kakashi accepts the flowers and thanks Guy for always being there for him.

Touched, Kakashi assures Guy that no matter what their ranks are, Kakashi and Guy will always be eternal rivals. Nothing could ever change that. Guy is surprised, and Lee is visibly holding back tears.

Kakashi thanks Guy for always being there for him so earnestly all this life, and says that he hopes Guy will continue to be by his side even now and help Kakashi protect and unite the village. Kakashi finds Guy's presence by his side very reassuring and hopes that Guy will be there to support him forever. Kakashi gives Guy a genuine smile.

Kakashi and Guy 219 crying (7)

Guy and Lee sob after Kakashi tells Guy how much he appreciates him.

The short speech moves both Guy and Rock Lee to blubbering tears. Kakashi continues, saying that he can't bring the whole village together by himself and implying that Guy is the person he would choose as his confidant, as Homura and Koharu suggested, but Guy and Lee are both loudly sobbing while Kakashi is trying to tell Guy how he feels. Kakashi asks Guy if he's listening, and Guy, though he is still sobbing, assures Kakashi that he is.

The stone carvers arrive then and usher Kakashi away, saying that they need to get Kakashi's measurements for the hokage monument.

Guy watches Kakashi leave, telling Lee that it seems that Kakashi has gotten one-up on him this time. However, Guy vows to his student that even through Kakashi is becoming hokage now, Guy will find a way to rise above and become something even greater than hokage, as now it is Guy's turn to be the one to surpass Kakashi.

Kakashi and Guy 219 council

After Guy announced that Tsunade has woken up.

Wishing him good luck, Lee asks what could be greater than hokage. Guy is unable to think of an answer.

Later that day, while Kakashi is in the meeting with the daimyo and the elders, just before he is finally about to be appointed as either the Sixth or the Seventh Hokage, Guy bursts into the room and interrupts the meeting. Kakashi is surprised to see him, quietly saying his name in shock.

Kakashi and Guy winking

Guy inviting Kakashi out after Tsunade is reinstated as Hokage.

Apologizing for interrupting the meeting, Guy announces that Tsunade has woken up from her coma after all, so she returns to active duty as Hokage. Kakashi is thrown off, but also visible relieved from the turn of events.

While the other officials rush to get the news out about Tsunade's recovery, Kakashi tiredly asks if he can go home now. Guy walks up behind Kakashi and puts a hand on Kakashi's shoulder, prompting Kakashi to look back at him.

With a wink and a grin, Guy invites him to a sushi restaurant to see which of them can eat the most.

Kakashi simply blinks and stares at him.

Paradise Life on a Boat[]

Kakashi and Guy 228

Kakashi doing "visualization training".

In episode 228, a flashback shows Guy running over to Kakashi and calling out to him. Kakashi is reading his Icha Icha book. Guy challenges Kakashi to a match, saying that they absolutely must have one then and there, but Kakashi claims to be busy training at the moment. Guy blushes, puts his hand over a page of the book, and argues that reading dirty books isn't the same as training, but Kakashi says that it's his way of visualization training.

Whether it's a real battle or training, Kakashi claims that visualization makes all the difference. He tells Guy to read books and practice visualization as well. Kakashi then vanishes with a body flicker technique, leaving a stunned Guy staring in silence and considering the advice.

Kakashi and Guy's tortoise 241

Kakashi immediately recognizes Guy's SOS tortoise.

Guy later puts this advice to use while trying to teach Lee.

In episode 241, Tsunade gives Kakashi the orders to lead the battle for the upcoming Fourth Shinobi World War. Kakashi complies, but asks for one condition to be met.

He says he needs someone by his side who he can trust to fight with him and help him, since a single man can't fight a war alone. Tsunade agrees and asks if there's anyone he can trust fully and implicitly. He begins to answer that the person he trusts is currently on an escort mission with Naruto, when an SOS turtle sudden flies into the room and ricochets around at top speed. Kakashi recognizes it at Guy's SOS tortoise summon that he only uses in emergencies. Kakashi immediately has Sai fly them to Guy's ship to scope out the situation.

Kakashi and Guy 241 hug

Guy imagines hugging Kakashi.

Meanwhile, on the boat, Yamato, Aoba, and Guy are discussing the mission at hand. Yamato and Aoba warn Guy that they heard about new enemies who are able to seamlessly take the form of others, well enough to even copy their chakra signatures and fool experienced jonin like themselves.

As soon as Guy hears the warning, he imagines such an enemy taking advantage of his relationship with Kakashi. Guy imagines himself gleefully calling out to his dear eternal rival who is waving at him with a smile in a dreamy field. Guy leaps over to give him a big hug, then he finds himself stabbed in the back and killed the moment he lets his guard down. The fake Kakashi has a wicked glint in its eyes. Guy shivers and hopes such a thing doesn't come to pass.

Kakashi and Guy Fight me!

Guy reintroducing himself to Kakashi and challenging him to a fight.

After Yamato and Aoba have gone to sleep, Naruto stays up to keep watch with Guy. Naruto wonders how Kakashi is doing, since he hasn't seen him in a while. Guy smiles fondly and says that everyone calls Kakashi "Might Guy's eternal rival," and offers to tell Naruto the story of how that rivalry came to be. Naruto is uninterested in hearing about it, but Guy goes on anyway to tell Naruto the story of how he and Kakashi first began their eternal rivalry.

When they were both children, Guy reintroduces himself to Kakashi while the latter is reading a book. The two already know each other, but Guy puts on airs and gives himself a grand introduction as the Blue Beast of the Leaf Village, an elite through sheer effort and hard work. Guy grins and says that he has a bad habit of challenging strong geniuses like Kakashi. According to Guy, they would make perfect rivals, as an elite born through hard work vs an elite born through lineage and innate genius.

Kakashi and Guy acorn

Guy and Kakashi compare sizes.

Kakashi is uninterested, a fact which only serves to motivate Guy even more. Guy grins and endeavors to change Kakashi's mind.

Guy persistently asks Kakashi again and again, while Kakashi is eating dinner, while Kakashi is using the bathroom (during which Guy is shocked to see how massive the difference between Kakashi's and Guy's members are, with Kakashi even comparing Guy's to an acorn), even while Kakashi is bathing. The antics just serve to annoy Kakashi, but finally he gives in and agrees to competitions.

They compete with bow and arrow, shuriken, and sickle and chain, and all three are Kakashi's wins. Kakashi scoffs and walks away, but Guy challenges him to taijutsu next, feeling confident that he can at least win at that. They exchange blows and kicks, and Kakashi remains on the defensive for much of the fight, noting the raw power behind Guy's kicks.

Although Guy puts up a good fight and Kakashi notes that Guy is strong enough to brag, Kakashi catches him off guard with a substitution jutsu and wrestles him down into submission with a choke hold.

Kakashi says he's tired of it now and Guy should understand his place as scum beneath Kakashi. Kakashi turns to leave, but Guy grabs Kakashi's leg and tearfully begs him not to run away, because Guy isn't scum and he's not giving up yet. Kakashi sighs and agrees to Rock-Paper-Scissors next, making Guy very happy. The two play Rock-Paper-Scissors while the sun sets.

Kakashi and Guy water

Kakashi asks Guy why he sent the SOS.

Back in the present, after Naruto goes back to bed, Guy is suffering through a usual bout of seasickness and feeling on edge from earlier warnings about enemies that can transform themselves into others, even copying their chakra and behavior perfectly. Guy is worried that such an enemy would take advantage of his friendship with Kakashi to lure him into a false sense of security and stab him in the back.

So when Guy suddenly sees Kakashi calling for him from right outside the boat, Guy is immediately suspicious. He pinches himself and ascertains that it is not a dream, so it must be the enemies' trap. Guy talks to Kakashi and tries to lure him into revealing that he's an impostor. Guy asks why "Kakashi" is there and asks if Kakashi remembers what their current score is. Kakashi is bemused by the questions, but when he finally does answer, Guy takes it as all the proof he needs that this is not his real rival.

Kakashi and Guy impostor

Guy attacks the "fake" Kakashi.

Guy attacks the "fake" Kakashi in a fight that parallels the fight shown in the flashback from when they were children: a flurry of punches that Kakashi dodges, a strong kick and that blocks with a cross, another kick which he dodges and jumps back from, and a kick that destroys a rock while Kakashi jumps out of the way. Kakashi asks if Guy really brought him all this way just to continue their rivalry.

Guy suspects that he's got him once Kakashi says that their score is currently 51-50 in his favor, even though the earlier race from episode 219 would have tied them at 50-50, but Kakashi reminded him of the sushi-eating competition that was immediately thereafter where Kakashi won again. Guy is shocked and admits that he forgot about that competition, but suspects that the impostor must have spied on them to get that information somehow.

Yamato and Aoba side with Kakashi on the matter. Kakashi remarks that Guy's acting strange and agrees with Yamato that he must still be feeling seasick.

Kakashi and Guy sushi

The forgotten sushi-eating competition, where Kakashi took the lead 51-50.

Still unconvinced, Guy decides to attack all three "impostors" seriously, forcing them to dodge and dive deep underwater to avoid his flaming peacock attack. Kakashi finally convinces Guy that it has to be him by revealing a secret that only Kakashi himself would know --that Guy's manhood is small as an acorn. Guy exclaims that it isn't anymore, and that was only from when he was a child. Guy is finally forced to admit that this has to be the real Kakashi.

Kakashi and Guy boat

Guy promises to come to Kakashi's rescue if he needs it.

Guy and Kakashi learn that the SOS was an accidental false-alarm summoned and sent out while Guy was seasick, who accidentally bit his thumb and failed to notice the tortoise that appeared. That tortoise had naturally headed straight to Kakashi's location. Guy tries to change the subject and feign nonchalance.

Kakashi tells Guy that he'll bring him up to speed when he returns from the escort mission. Guy asks if Kakashi wants to visit Naruto before he leaves, but Kakashi says that he doesn't need to because Naruto has Guy to watch over him. Guy is surprised and touched at the remark, smiling and agreeing with Kakashi.

Just before Kakashi leaves, he turns back and asks if Guy will come for him if Kakashi is ever in danger. Guy promises that he would, no matter what. Kakashi is confident in Guy's ability to guide Naruto, so he leaves Naruto in Guy's hands without going to see him for now.

Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation[]

Kakashi and Guy 284 treesquad

Kakashi and Guy wait for the scout to return.

In episode 284, Guy lays in wait right behind Kakashi along with the rest of the Third Division for news about how the war is proceeding.

A returning shinobi reports to them that he's found no signs of life, including allies and enemies. Guy expresses his confusion at this, saying that he doubts the enemy would have simply given up at this point. Kakashi answers that it's likely part of the psychological warfare of the battle. Although he admits that it's what the enemy will want them do, Kakashi advises the others to use this moment of artificial respite as a chance to rest up and recover their chakra. He tells them to stay on their guard and reconvene for scouting in half an hour.

The others all immediately scatter once Kakashi has given the order, but Guy stays beside Kakashi and watches the others go.

Kakashi and Guy 284 thumbsup (10)

Guy assures Kakashi that he can't sleep at a time like this.

Kakashi turns to Guy and tells him that he should rest a little, too. Guy just grins and gives Kakashi a thumbs up, saying that he couldn't possibly sleep at a time like this. Kakashi says that he understands how Guy feels, but before he can finish the statement, he is interrupted by two other ninja from their squad, who tell him that HQ has sent the sealing scroll for Sai. Kakashi goes to deliver the seal to Sai and assigns Lee as Sai's bodyguard.

Later, after they have rested for a while, the enemy launches their attack. Reanimated shinobi begin to pick off their forces piece by piece. Guy gives chase, noting that the cornered enemies keep evading instead of fighting them head on, and Kakashi responds that the enemies have sent their weaker shinobi here first. Kakashi notes that their enemies' current tactic will probably be hiding in the trees and using guerrilla warfare in an effort to scatter the allied shinobi's forces.

Kakashi and Guy 284 branch (2)

Kakashi orders Guy to send out the message to regroup.

Guy tells Kakashi that things are already going downhill for them and asks how they should proceed from here. Kakashi tells Guy to send out a message to regroup.

Guy complies, but asks what Kakashi plans to do. Kakashi expresses his concern for the support squads behind them, since they're in the rear and have the sealing jutsu they need to counter the reanimation jutsu. Guy doesn't fully understand, but he places his trust in Kakashi nevertheless.

Lee and Sai arrive shortly thereafter, and Guy greets them before Kakashi calls them for follow after him and prepare a seal.

Kakashi and Guy vs Heartless Duo

The "Comrades Combo".

In episode 288, Kakashi is fighting two reanimated warriors from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, Jinpachi Munashi and Kushimaru Kuriarare. He is having some difficulty, when Guy arrives from the sky announcing that Kakashi looks like he needs some assistance and pushing them back with a Severe Leaf Hurricane. Guy helps Kakashi fight two of the reanimation samurai, a particularly cruel pair of revived killers who even attack each other and constantly bicker about who gets to land the kills and steal back Kakashi's sword.

Guy asks Kakashi why he would be fighting on his own when Kakashi was the one who called for them to regroup and avoid danger. Kakashi explains that he wanted to save as many people as possible by himself, which Guy had already figured would be the case. Kakashi thanks Guy for the help, and Guy is thrown off by how grateful and open Kakashi was in thanking him, noting that it was so unusual it was almost creepy. He must be up against formidable opponents to make him act like that.

Kakashi and Guy thread

Guy gets stuck in a trap.

Kakashi warns Guy to be careful, since these two swordsman are particularly cruel, enough to be called the "cold-blooded combo". Guy calls himself and Kakashi "the Hidden Lead's invincible comrades combo" in contrast to the cold-blooded combo. Kakashi is not impressed by the name and sweatdrops, but he doesn't say anything about it for now.

They fight the pair together. Guy is caught up in Kushimaru's thread trap and is unable to dodge Jinpachi's explosives. Kakashi stays behind to try to help Guy get loose, despite Guy warning him to forget about him and run. Kakashi protects them both from the explosion with an earth style mud wall jutsu, but the attack left him temporarily blinded. Guy thanks Kakashi for the help but warns him to be careful since he can't see.

Kakashi and Guy mission

Guy on a mission with Rin and Kakashi after Obito's death.

They have a flashback to a mission they and Rin barely managed to pull through when they were young adults or teenagers, sometime after Obito's death. Their supplies and weapons had run low, the enemy was close and outnumbered them easily. They would have a hard time falling back to get help without being ambushed and taken down by enemy forces first. Guy insists that he can handle it even without a single weapon to use, but Kakashi snaps at him and orders him to obey Kakashi's orders as the captain, reiterating that ninja who go against their superiors' orders are just scum who don't deserve to be ninjas in the first place.

Kakashi and Guy captain

Kakashi scolds Guy's reckless confidence because he doesn't want him to die.

Guy understands that Kakashi is still worked up over the recent death of his former teammate Obito and that he does not want that to happen again, so he is silent and seems to drop the argument there.

However, Guy sees no way for all three of them to escape, so rather than let Kakashi and Rin die, Guy charges out to draw the enemy away on his own to act as a decoy and buy his comrades time until dawn. Since Kakashi would probably think less of him anyway, Guy is resolved to see this through as long as he can be sure that his friends took this chance to escape. Guy is overwhelmed by their numbers and eventually backed into a corner during the fight.

As it turns out, Kakashi appears and rescues him, saying that he doesn't necessarily think Guy did the wrong thing, and ninjas who would abandon their friends instead are far worse than scum. Both he and Guy were outnumbered and exhausted, but neither of them wanted to abandon the other to die. Guy asked why Kakashi came to help someone who wasn't suited to be a ninja in the first place, but Kakashi understood that Guy only defied his orders in order to save Rin and Kakashi. Together, they figure they've bought enough time for Rin to regroup with the others at least.

Kakashi and Guy chidori

Kakashi summons the chakra to protect Guy.

Kakashi notices a jutsu that the enemy ninja are using to conjure up an attack that would cover the whole area. Exhausted and out of chakra, he tries on more time and manages to conjure up a chidori, much to Guy's surprise.

Kakashi used the Chidori to cut through the summoned lightning bolt before it could strike. Kakashi is even surprised with himself, saying that he was able to summon more chakra when he thought about how he had to protect his friends.

Kakashi and Guy 288 backtoback feet

Kakashi and Guy stand back to back.

More enemies appear, and Guy tells Kakashi to rest, since now, it's Guy's turn to protect Kakashi. Even if Guy can't use it legs or his arms, he vowed to do everything in his power to take care of Kakashi and protect his friends, just like Kakashi did.

Back in the present fight, Kakashi and Guy are running at the swordsmen, and Kakashi vows to fight by Guy's side even without his vision, mirroring Guy's determination from their flashback mission and confirming to Guy that he remembered it, too.

Kakashi and Guy Combo

Guy and a blinded Kakashi corner the Heartless Combo.

Kakashi can't see, but he fights by matching Guy's movements and using that to predict where the enemy is with perfect precision, a skill he has honed from years of rivalry with Guy. The swordsman duo start to argue and get in each other's way again, and Kakashi and Guy declare that they never had a chance of defeating the eternal rivals' combo if they didn't think of their comrades as comrades. Kakashi and Guy attack in sync, then fall back before Jinpachi can blow up the whole area.

Kakashi and Guy smile

Guy and Kakashi after the sealing team have arrived.

Shikamaru and the sealing reinforcements arrive just in time to help, just like Rin and the reinforcements arrived in the flashback to help Guy and Kakashi back then. Kakashi and Guy reflect on the unfathomable power that comes from protecting your comrades.

In episode 289, Kakashi and Guy scope out the area for enemies together, noticing that their own forces have become too scattered. They agree that they need to reunite the forces.

A ninja comes and reports to Kakashi and Guy that Yurui needs reinforcements against Ringo Ameyuri, another revived member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. Guy decides to go to help Omoi, and Kakashi decides to go because his own lightning release style may help to counter Ringo's.

Kakashi and Guy bond between men

Kakashi and Guy admiring the "bond between men."

They arrive too late to save Yurui and only find the burnt remains of the forest that Ringo destroyed. Kakashi hopes that someone among the chunin can survive against her, but Guy is unsure that such a hero will appear. In the meantime, they chase after the trail in hopes of finding her and stopping her themselves. They finally find Kayui and he points them in the direction of Omoi and Nurui. Kakashi, Guy, and Sai finally arrive in time to save Omoi from sinking in the bottomless pit he created to sink Ringo. Kakashi and Guy fly together on one of Sai's birds and remark on the heroes and the bond between men.

Kakashi and Guy are then given notice that Killer Bee and Naruto are heading for the front lines together. Kakashi and Guy are hopeful to hear that the heroes they've been waiting for are on the move now.

Kakashi and Guy 306

Kakashi watches Guy scold/praise the genin.

In episode 306, Kakashi and Guy rescue Neji, Naruto, and Sakura while the latter were searching for the eye medicine plant in the Valley of Judgement.

While the students are being overwhelmed by swarm of mysterious creatures in the valley, Guy suddenly appears, falling in from above and clears away the mist with Severe Leaf Whirlwind. He is followed by Kakashi, who clears up more of the surrounding fog using his Chidori, forcing the creatures to retreat.

Kakashi and Guy 306 look

Kakashi and Guy convince the students to give up their search.

The two explain to their students that they are doing surveillance in the Valley of Judgement to look for Orochimaru, who might come in search of the plant do help him study the Sharingan and other Visual Jutsu. Since it was a false alarm, Kakashi sees no problem telling that to the kids.

Kakashi and Guy then ask what the children were doing in the valley, and after hearing their explanation, Guy tearfully applauds their youthful friendship, but hits them all on the head as punishment for doing something so dangerous. Naruto points out that Guy's words are at odds with his actions, and Kakashi just stares at Guy.

Kakashi and Guy kimonos

Kakashi and Guy enjoy the fireworks together.

Guy laughs at his own contradiction, and Kakashi explains that the search is almost certainly futile. The creatures here have evolved to have no eyesight, so eyesight is not something they need in the valley, and it's unlikely they'll find something to create eye medicine here. Moreover, it was too dangerous for them to stay there. So, they all leave the valley and return to the village empty-handed.

Later that night, at the festival honoring Tsunade as the village's new Hokage, Kakashi and Guy can be seen watching the fireworks together from the rooftops, both wearing yukata.

Kakashi and Guy 320 Sai Lee (1)

Sai reports what he knows about Omoi's situation.

In episode 320, Guy is with Kakashi as Kakashi reports to headquarters about Omoi's apparent desertion. Omoi apparently abandoned his post after saying that he needed leave for a bit. Guy is still trembling in shock at the news, wondering out loud why Omoi would do that and hoping that his comrade would return. The others discuss the situation, with Sai and Karui in particular arguing that Omoi has not deserted them. The discussion continues until Omoi himself suddenly weighs in, assuring them through their communicator that he has not deserted them. He asks for an hour to retrieve the Thundercloud Unit, then runs off without receiving an answer.

Kakashi and Guy 320 manage (4)

Kakashi and Guy assure Tsunade they can manage while they wait for Omoi to return.

A supports Omoi's plan, so Tsunade orders Kakashi, Guy, Sai, and Lee to hold down the fort in their location long enough to buy Omoi the time he needs. Kakashi laments that Omoi was a strong subordinate, so it will be difficult to manage without him for an hour, but Kakashi is confident that he and Guy can handle it. Guy agrees with Kakashi, saying that if they try five- or ten-times harder, it will be possible.

Kakashi's Anbu Arc: The Shinobi That Lives in the Darkness[]

Kakashi and Guy 349 - dumplings

One of the many times Guy invites Kakashi to join them for sweet dumplings.

This arc focuses on Kakashi's time in his dark path while working in the Anbu, and as such, a lot of it is an anime-exclusive expansion of established canon material. Many of these events and timelines do line up with canon events and occur in canon, but the arc itself is structured as filler.

Guy appears throughout the arc to try to talk to Kakashi, either to challenge him or to invite him to hang out, but above all Guy is shown to recognize the internal turmoil that Kakashi is in and to try to find some way to alleviate it. Kakashi ignores Guy for most of the arc.

In episode 349, Guy and his friends are eating dango together and discussing the state of affairs in regards to the war and the hokage. Guy leans against the wall just outside the restaurant, noticeable apprehensive of how much weight the treaty holds, in comparison to the optimistic and happy Kurenai and Asuma, who are just glad the war is over.

Kakashi and Guy 349 - Hokage Announced

Guy telling Kakashi about the new Fourth Hokage.

Guy's mood seems to lift when he notices Kakashi walking by. Guy smiles and calls out for him to join them for some dango too. Kakashi glances over at Guy tiredly, but keeps walking past him without a word. Guy notes that Kakashi hasn't been very sociable these days. While the others wonder how long he is going to mourn the loss of his teammates, Guy simply stares after Kakashi with a deep frown, but he doesn't say anything else.

After Hiruzen's resignation as the hokage is posted, Guy runs to tell Kakashi as soon as he sees the news. He finds Kakashi sitting on the bench reading a book. Guy curiously takes the book and reads the title, which Guy worriedly notices is "How a Shinobi Should Die." Kakashi snatches the book away from Guy and asks what he wants.

Kakashi and Guy 349 - Hokage

Kakashi and Guy attend Minato's inauguration ceremony.

Guy winks and excitedly tells Kakashi the news, that the fourth hokage was just announced as Kakashi's teacher, Minato. Kakashi is shocked to hear about it.

Kakashi and Guy attend Minato's inauguration as the Fourth Hokage together.

While Kakashi is training his Chidori and still trying to work through the panic he goes through every time he tries, Guy jumps down from a tree and tells Kakashi that he'd been looking for him. Guy says that the Hokage told him to fetch Kakashi so he could send him on a mission. Guy frowns pensively when he sees how spaced out Kakashi is, but doesn't press the issue yet.

Kakashi and Guy 349 - Rescue

Guy rescues Kakashi during a mission.

Later, Guy is secretly ordered by Hokage Minato to watch over Kakashi's mission in case something goes wrong. Guy rescues Kakashi during the mission while Kakashi is having a breakdown from trying to use his Chidori and remembering how he killed Rin with it.

Guy asks Kakashi what's wrong, since it's not like him to freeze up in the middle of a mission. Kakashi apologizes to Guy, but then collapses to the ground, breathing heavily and barely being able to stay conscious. Guy calls out to him and kneels beside him worriedly.

Kakashi and Guy 349 - collapsed

Kakashi collapses in a panic after trying to use Chidori.

Guy reports the incident to Minato and says that he's never seen Kakashi like that before. Minato thanks Guy and notes that he made the right decision in sending Guy after Kakashi. Guy wishes he could do more to help Kakashi as his eternal rival, especially at times like this, but Minato assures him that he's done plenty to help and that Minato can take it from here.

In episode 350, Guy sees that Kakashi is out of the hospital. Guy waves and calls out to Kakashi to ask him how he's doing now, but Kakashi keeps his eyes closed and walks past Guy, ignoring him again. Guy frowns and glares after Kakashi in annoyance.

On the night of the Nine-Tails' attack on the village, Kakashi and Guy are walking through town together, trying to decide on what sort of competition to have.

Kakashi and Guy 350 - walk

Guy is tired of rock-paper-scissors.

Kakashi suggests they just do rock-paper-scissors again, but Guy argues that he wants to do something more exciting this time. Kakashi reminds Guy that it's late and they have to be up early the following day, so they should pass on anything too extravagant. Guy has too much pent-up energy to agree to that. Guy goes on about how important it is to always train and remain vigilent, but Kakashi stops walking and stares ahead blankly.

Guy assumes he's being ignored again and complains that Kakashi has gotten callous ever since he joined the ANBU. Guy mentions that he's heard gossip about Kakashi being a cold-blooded killer now, but Guy knows he's not supposed to talk about Kakashi's role in ANBU. Still, Guy says that ANBU missions aren't an excuse to forget about their friendship.

Kakashi and Guy 350 - Kyuubi

Guy prepares to fight. Kakashi remains cautious.

Kakashi cuts him off and asks Guy if he senses anything strange in the air, like a sudden chill. Guy says the only chill is coming from Kakashi's cold attitude towards him.

Suddenly, the Nine-Tails attacks.

Guy draws back and takes a fighting stance, getting ready to fight and release his pent up energy by taking on the tailed beast. Kakashi warns Guy not to be so hasty, but Guy runs ahead with the full intention of joining the fight anyway. Before Guy can go, he and Kakashi are stopped by a guard and ordered to gather in the guardroom immediately on Hiruzen's orders. Guy is surprised by Hiruzen's sudden order, and Kakashi tells Guy to come on and do as he was told.

Kakashi and Guy 350 - Kurenai Asuma

Kakashi, Guy, and the others ordered to stay away from the Nine-Tails attack.

Guy, Kakashi, and other ninjas of their age group are gathered and ordered not to take part in the battle. They were all to stay far away from the Nine-Tails. Since this was a domestic issue instead of a battle between villages, the ninja had no reason to risk their lives to address it.

Kakashi and Guy 350 - funeral

Kakashi and Guy attend Minato's and Kushina's funeral.

Kakashi and Guy are right next to Kurenai, who argues against their inaction with her father, and her father has her promise to live on long enough to have grandchildren for him. Guy complains that this isn't the time for a family dispute. Guy wants to go defend the village right now and can't stand not being able to do anything. Kakashi silently worries and stares off.

The two attend Kushina's and Minato's funeral together shortly thereafter.

In episode 351, Guy is eating at the dango stand when he sees Kakashi walking through town. Guy smiles and waves to him, but Kakashi is deep in thought and either doesn't notice him or ignores him. Guy sighs in disappointment.

Later in the same episode, Guy is eating dango with his friends to celebrate the return of Lord Third. He sees Kakashi walking past and sneaks after him quietly. Kakashi rounds a corner, aware that he is being followed. When Guy runs out and jumps at him, Kakashi spins and grabs him, holding the tip of a kunai blade to Guy's throat before Guy has a chance to react.

Kakashi and Guy kunai

Kakashi reacting to Guy trying to surprise him.

Guy gulps and tells Kakashi that it's just him and he didn't mean any harm. Kakashi sighs and releases Guy, taking a step back and asking what Guy was trying to do. Guy and Kakashi both say that they thought the other was going to kill them.

Guy explains that he only wanted to surprise Kakashi and challenge him into a showdown to revive their eternal rivalry. Kakashi apologizes, but walks away, refusing to do a challenge today, making Guy even more worried than before. Guy frowns and reaches out as he watches Kakashi go, but ultimately decides not to follow him.

In episode 357, Guy, along with Kurenai and Asuma, find Kakashi hanging out on the bridge. Guy asks Kakashi why he looks so tired, but he's reminded that he's not allowed to ask ANBU about the details of their missions. Guy drops the issue with a smile and invites Kakashi to join them to have some dango instead, in that case. Kakashi reminds them that he doesn't like sweets and leaves.

Kakashi and Guy 357 - bridge

Guy notices how tired Kakashi is.

Guy is still vocally concerned about Kakashi's mental state and decides that he has to do something to help his rival find his passion and light again. He begs the Third Hokage, Hiruzen, to allow Guy to join Anbu, stating that as Kakashi's partner he should have his back on those missions regardless of whether Guy would work best in ANBU or not. Hiruzen refuses, saying that Guy's skill set is unsuited for Anbu. Guy is dejected by the rejection of his skills.

Guy then asks Danzo to let him join as Kakashi's partner, but Danzo refuses as well, saying Guy had no darkness in his heart and therefore, was no use to Danzo. Guy is unsure what to make of that remark.

Later, Guy is sent on a mission to exchange scrolls with the Hannya Black Ops of the Land of Woods, but the true nature of the mission is for the Anbu to follow after Guy's team in secret and assassinate all of the delegates from the other side that are suspected of betraying Konoha. The Anbu chosen for the job are Kakashi and Itachi. Guy and his squad eat a hot pot meal while they take a break on their way to the meeting place, while Kakashi and Itachi watch over them from nearby and eat food pills. Guy tells his men to eat up and regain their strength in case they get into a fight, since Guy suspects that this mission is actually about clarifying whether the Land of the Woods is a friend or foe, so it could easily become a confrontation.

Kakashi and Itachi are impressed that Guy is able to suss out the true purpose of the meeting on his own. Kakashi remarks that this situation is the perfect metaphor for being in the ANBU --he and Itachi are sitting alone in the trees eating food pills in the shadows, while Guy and his squad are sitting together in the sun, openly burning a fire, eating hot-pot together.

Kakashi and Guy 357 - scroll

Kakashi gives Guy his scroll and tells him that the mission is complete.

When Guy goes to exchange the scrolls with the Hannya Black Ops, he hands over the Leafs' scroll first, but when the Hannya Black Ops ninja is about to hand Guy a scroll, Guy notices the trap, kicks it away, and watches it explode. He grins and tells her that they're supposed to exchange scrolls, not fires. The Hannya Black Ops leap away and say they plan to report this as a betrayal from the Leaf and seek retribution for the attack.

A fight ensues, and Kakashi and Itachi step in to handle it. Guy orders the ninja who accompanied him to run away, but refuses to leave without a fight himself, even when Kakashi orders him to fall back as well.

Guy leaps into the fight, using the gates to chase after the enemy ninja, which impresses Kakashi and Itachi. They are able to soundly defeat the ninja, but Guy is horrified to watch as Kakashi and Itachi finish the job by killing them all and making sure none are left. Guy calls out after Kakashi, who scolds him for using Kakashi's real name during a secret Anbu mission. Kakashi makes sure all the enemies have been killed, then hands Guy the proper scroll and tells him that his mission is a success, so he can report back.

Kakashi and Guy 357 - grave

Kakashi and Guy after the ANBU mission.

Guy goes to talk to Hiruzen again, this time to tell Hiruzen that while Guy agreed that Guy would not be suited for ANBU, Guy was sure that Kakashi wasn't suited for missions like those either. He asks Hiruzen to withdraw Kakashi from the Anbu.

After the mission is done, Kakashi apologizes to Guy for what he had to see, showing that he does indeed care about Guy. Guy apologizes to Kakashi as well.

Kakashi and Guy 359 - spar

Kakashi invites Guy out when they were looking over the Academy.

In episode 359, Guy is scoping out the young kids at the Ninja Academy when Kakashi comes up and greets him, curious about what he's doing at the Academy. Guy will become a leader of his own squad soon, but admits to Kakashi that he is worried about what kind of kids he'll get. They notice Sasuke and Naruto getting into an argument, and Guy laughs and notes the if he gets students like those two, it'll be tough.

Kakashi invites Guy out on a walk through the Uchiha district as a cover for Kakashi's own investigation into the affairs there. Guy happily agrees and is excited about the food and sights there.

It is the first time Guy and Kakashi have been to this district in a while, even though Kakashi says he used to come frequently. Guy buys some rice crackers and asks Kakashi why he's staring so intently at a house (Obito's house). Guy gushes over how great the rice crackers from the Uchiha district are, and Kakashi brings Guy along to get more things exclusive to the Uchiha district.

Kakagai 359-4

Guy is happy with the fortune he got at the Uchiha's temple.

The two visit a temple in the Uchiha district together, and Kakashi encourages Guy to get a fortune even though Guy claims to be agnostic. Kakashi tells him to just play along and be a good sport, so Guy obliges. Guy is overjoyed that his fortune is for excellent luck.

In episode 360, while Kakashi passes by, Guy again smiles and invites Kakashi to join them all for some dango. Kakashi does not respond.

Guy continues to worry about Kakashi, but Hiruzen finally takes Guy's advice and makes Kakashi a teacher instead of an Anbu officer. Guy hears that Kakashi is sending all his teams back to the academy, though, and wonders if Kakashi will be able to find a team to suit him now that Guy has his own team as well. Guy looks over the team Hiruzen put together for Kakashi to test next, consisting of Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura.

In episode 361, Hiruzen tries to convince Kakashi to accept a team of students by mentioning that Guy already has accepted a team himself. Later, Hiruzen discusses the makeup of Guy's team and how unusual it is to have a team built around taijutsu specialty. Kakashi's response implies he was already well aware of the unusual specialization of Guy's squad.

In Naruto's Footsteps: The Friends' Paths[]

Kakashi and Guy Tenten

Kakashi pokes fun at Guy and Tenten.

In episode 399, while proctoring the exams, Guy receives a letter via bird messenger from Tsunade and Kakashi. Tsunade explains that Kakashi found evidence of suspicious activity from the other villages and orders Guy and the others to investigate and protect Gaara.

In episode 401, in a flashback, Might Guy tells Lee that in his battles with Kakashi, he can see 1000 moves ahead through mental visualization alone. He later elaborates that what he means by this is that he's become extremely adept in reading and anticipating Kakashi's reactions to the point were he can guide the battle to go where Guy wants it to go as far forward as 1000 moves.

In episode 404, Tenten recalls a time when she was training with Guy. The two were mountain climbing to build stamina while Guy gives Tenten advice in finding the role she is best suited for to support her team.

Kakashi appears next to them, climbing the same stretch of mountain, but he is doing it with one hand behind his back. He notes that Guy and Tenten are going rather slow, but tells them both to hang in there while he passes them to climb higher. Guy, suddenly extremely motivated, puts on arms behind his back and climbs up at top speed, challenging Kakashi to a race and leaving Tenten behind to catch up to him.

When Tenten reaches the top, she sees Guy sitting and looking frustrated, apparently having lost the race.

Jiraiya Shinobi Handbook: The Tale of Naruto the Hero[]

Kakashi and Guy 432 circle (3)

The Konoha genin gather for the mission.

The events in this arc cover a novel written by Jiraiya in Tsunade's infinite Tsukiyomi that focuses on the ninja of Konoha.

In episode 432, all of the teams of the Konoha 11 gather up, including Kakashi's Team and Gai's team. After Asuma's briefing, they all scatter.

In episode 433, Kakashi and Guy are present with their teams as they're briefed on a mission by Hokage Minato. Kakashi and his team are the last to arrive.

Kakashi and Guy kidnapped 435

Kakashi, Guy, and the other jonin captured.

During their missions, Kakashi and Guy both suddenly feel a sharp stab of pain in their chests and collapse to the ground. Tentacles appear from the earth and spirit them away.

In episode 435, it is revealed to the Konoha 11 that the jonin from their village have been captured and are being held hostage by an unknown masked man, shown only through a space-time jutsu in a windy orb.

The genin can either come into the orb after them in an attempt to rescue the jonin, or they can run back to their village, in which case their masked captor will execute all of the jonin. Both Naruto and Lee want to run in after their teachers, but Lee is held back by Tenten.

Among the unconscious, captured jonin, Kakashi and Guy can be seen floating together near each other.

Kakashi and Guy kidnapped 440

Kakashi and Guy untied together.

In episode 440, the jonin are finally rescued. Kakashi and Guy are tied up together, along with Kurenai. Their genin teams untie them and Guy and Kakashi happily thank their students, with Kakashi being slightly embarrassed that he needed to be rescued by his genin. Guy, on the other hand, is filled with pride over being rescued by his precious students, and is especially overjoyed to see Lee again.

Kakashi asks the students to explain the situation to them, but before they can, the masked man appears before them and says that he'll explain it himself. Kakashi and Guy prepare to fight, but Neji tells them to stand down and listen to him. The man removes his mask and bandages, and Guy and Kakashi's eyes widen in shock. They, along with everyone else, are surprised to see that the masked man is Hizashi, Neji's father. Hizashi explains his story, how Orochimaru revived him with Edo Tensei, and why he put the leaf ninja to the test. Hizashi asks Kakashi to look into a way to release the Edu Tensei jutsu, but first requests a moment alone with Neji.

Everyone else leaves the room and goes outside except Neji, so he can have a final talk with his father while he was still there.

Kakashi and Guy 440 glowing

Kakashi and Guy watch Neji say his goodbyes to Hizashi.

Kakashi and Guy wait together outside. They look towards the building when it suddenly begins to glow brightly and emit a light that vanish into the sky. Kakashi notes that it looks like they won't have to find a way to dispel the jutsu that brought Hizashi back to life, and Guy agrees that this seemed to be the case. They look into the sky as the light from Hizashi's ghost dissipates like falling bird feathers. Guy goes in to comfort Neji.

Afterwards, the group all begin to head back to the village.

The sensei all trail far behind their genin. Kakashi and Guy call after the kids to wait for them. Guy is sweating and panting since his body is still recovering from the effects of the jutsu that Hizashi had used against the jonin. Kakashi seems much less tired compared to Guy, and reacts with a quiet sigh.

Kakashi and Guy 440 tired (1)

Guy is still exhausted.

Suddenly, a large explosion wipes out a village in the distance. Kakashi and Guy are next to each other as they stare at the mushroom cloud in shock. In episode 441, all of the teams report in to Minato, who notes that he can't quite say their mission went as planned, due to the genin's disobedience, particularly Neji's. Kakashi says that the genin's cleverness is what enabled them to rescue Kakashi, Gai, and the other sensei.

Kakashi and Guy 441 asuma kurenai (1)

The jonin ask Minato to forgive their students.

Kakashi and Gai, along with Asuma and Kurenai, bow in unison and ask Minato to take their reasoning into consideration and go easy on their students. Minato agrees to overlook it as a special circumstance.

In episode 450, the final episode of the arc, Guy and Kakashi can both be seen posing around the hokage's desk along with the rest of the group for a photo, now that everyone has returned happily to the village.

Sukea Special[]

In episode 469, Kakashi disguises himself as Sukea, a disguise where he forgoes his mask and wears a brown wig and purple marks on his face. He spends the entire episode confidently playing an elaborate ruse to send his team on a wild goose chase for fun.

After Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke have all given up and said they had a fun time, "Sukea" is walking away, but suddenly becomes alarmed when he sees Guy walking in his direction, apparently under the impression that Guy might see through him, despite the fact that Kakashi was not nervous to show up as Sukea in front of anyone else. In fact, Guy almost seems like he recognizes Kakashi.

Kakashi and Guy 469

Guy almost sees through Kakashi's disguise.

At first, they walk past each other, and Kakashi breathes a sigh of relief. Guy calls out to the man and walks back over to him, making Kakashi nervous again. Guy asks Sukea if he's seen any kind of trouble going on around town. Kakashi nervous answers that he hasn't seen anything of the sort. After holding each other's stares for a while, Guy finally mutters, "Kakashi...", shocking Kakashi, before he continues to say that Kakashi and his students were making an uproar around here. Guy apologizes for bothering the stranger, and Kakashi walks away, breathing another sigh of relief.

Just then, Guy calls out to him yet again. He turns around, and Guy is even closer than he was before.

Guy leans in close and stares at his face intently, scrutinizing it carefully, certain that he's met this man before somewhere before. But Kakashi, as "Sukea," denies that they know each other. Guy eventually drops the issue and walks away, still insisting to himself that he has seen that stranger before.

This is especially odd since Guy has a running gag in which he is unable to remember his enemies' faces, even particularly unique ones such as Kisame or, by Guy's own admission, the Tailed Beasts, yet he is nearly able to recognize Kakashi's face despite the latter constantly wearing a mask.

Childhood[]

Kakashi and Guy 483

Kakashi vs Guy.

In episode 483, the second half focuses on Kakashi's childhood life after his father Sakumo committed suicide. Guy appears a number of times to challenge him to a battle at school, calling Kakashi his eternal rival and his man of destiny and inviting a confused Kakashi to spend his springtime of youth with Guy. Kakashi just stares and tells him no, but Guy tries not to let it discourage him too much and instigates the spars himself.

During the first fight, Guy goes down very quickly. He takes it in stride, saying that his eternal rival is truly amazing to be able to get such an instant kill on him.

During the second fight, Guy says that he's stronger than before and there's no way his current self will lose the battle this time, even though he still has an obvious wound on his face from the previous fight. Guy ignores Kakashi when he points out the injury Guy still has from their previous fight. Guy holds his own much better this time and manages to keep up with Kakashi more evenly blow for blow. The victor of the match is not shown.

Kakashi wonders if Guy will be okay exerting himself after a long mission.

In episode 311, Guy and his team have just returned from a long mission and are leaving the Hokage's office after reporting in. Kakashi happens to walk by just as they're coming out, and Guy calls out to him and asks Kakashi to take over for him, flashing him his signature Good Guy pose.

Kakashi replies, "Sure, sure, roger that," in a somewhat tired voice. Neji and Tenten are going to head to the bathhouse to relax for their break, but Lee decides to spend the time training instead. Kakashi commends Lee's dedication but tries to warn Lee not to overexert himself, since he has just gotten back from a mission. However, Guy interrupts and tearfully praises Lee's youthful determination. Guy promises to train together with Lee, and Kakashi sweatdrops while he watches their overenthusiastic cheers. Kakashi wonders to himself if Guy will be okay.

Kakashi and Guy 311

Guy is not okay.

Guy winds up to start running, but he clumsily trips over his own feet and falls to the floor, already unconscious or at least unable to move. Kakashi figured that was how it would go.

While Lee is dramatically begging Guy to stand back up and keep fighting towards tomorrow, Kakashi saunters over and squats down to take a closer look at Guy. Kakashi tells Lee that Guy's body won't do what he wants to anymore, so it was hopeless.

Kakashi promises Lee that he'll watch over Guy in the meantime until he can recover his strength.

The Adventures of Naruto!…Oh, and Everyone Else Too! / One on One: Every Genin For Themselves![]

In the second part of the recap special, Might Guy and Kakashi Hatake discuss the matches that took place during Chunin Exams.

Guy begins saying that he and Kakashi have stories of their own to tell from the Chunin Exams. Kakashi agrees, but says that he'll let Guy tell his stories first, since they should save the best for last, making Guy see this as another competition between the two of them. Guy describes the sudden inclusion of a preliminary round in the chunin exam as a twist that no one could have seen coming, but Kakashi says that he could because he has the sharingan. Guy calls that a draw.

Guy begins to move onto the first match, but Kakashi interrupts, saying that it's his turn to take over the story since Sasuke is his student. Guy weakly argued that the match indirectly involved Lee, but he lets Kakashi recount the fight anyway. Afterwards, Kakashi goes on to describe Sakura's fight with Ino, saying that although Sakura didn't win, she didn't lose either. Kakashi then describes Naruto's fight and how he managed to turn it around and win.

Kakashi brags that all of his students did well, but Guy feels like Kakashi is only being so emphatic about it for Kakashi's own ego. Kakashi tells Guy to stop daydreaming and continue the recap, so Guy covers Shikamaru's fight with Kin. He begins to talk about Neji's fight with Hinata, but Kakashi cuts in and says that it's his turn again. He praises Hinata for never giving up.

Afterwards, they move on to Lee's fight. Guy is overjoyed to get to talk about his prodigy student, but Kakashi pointedly asks him how that battle turned out. Guy describes Lee's fight and explains why he stepped in to stop it at the end.

Rock Lee's Springtime of Youth[]

Throughout the Naruto spin-off, Kakashi and Guy often act as some sort of comedic duo in their appearances. Sometimes, both go along with the comic role. At other times, Kakashi is the straight man to Guy's antics. Rarely, this is inverted and Guy comments on Kakashi's antics.

Sd 4 1000yearsofdeath

Kakashi kancho's a sick Guy.

In the second half of episode four, Guy is set to face off against his eternal rival, Kakashi, in a no-holds-barred showdown.

Kakashi nonchalantly asks Guy if they really have to have a challenge right now, especially since Guy is clearly sick with a cold. Guy still insists on fighting Kakashi and argues that his youth will still shine in this fight. Kakashi thinks that Guy is too old to be going on about youth still, but since Guy begins to make the first move, Kakashi closes his book and gets ready to counterattack.

Sd Kakashi and Guy ThousandYearsOfDeath-0

Kakashi wins the challenge against Gai.

Kakashi easily defeats the sick Guy with his secret move, One Thousand Years of Death, bringing Guy to his knees in pain. Kakashi says that he's won this one and tells Guy to wait for his cold to pass before he tries again. Guy shakily asks Kakashi to get him to a doctor. Kakashi wonders if perhaps he shouldn't be poking 30-year-old men in the butt like that. While Guy is on a short sick leave, Kakashi will take over mission with Tenten, Neji, and Rock Lee in Guy's place. Rock Lee overhears Kakashi say that he still has a long way to go, and Lee becomes disillusioned with his teacher, wondering if the gap in power between the rivals really was that large. Neji is relieved that Kakashi is around to keep Guy grounded, and Tenten is sure that Guy is wasting his time since he doesn't stand a chance against Kakashi in anything. Lee remembers all the battles that Guy and Kakashi have had to try to convince himself of his teacher's worth, but in the end, Lee starts to think that maybe Guy really can't compare to Kakashi.

Sd Kakashi and Guy combo

Kakashi and Guy arrive to protect Lee.

Lee tries mimicking Kakashi instead, but can't pull it off and is almost taken down by a group of bandits. Kakashi and Guy appear together just in time to save him. Lee asks if Guy is really well enough to be out there, and Kakashi answers that he's not, but Guy was so determined to protect the students that he rushed out. Kakashi reminisces on how far Guy has come as a ninja since they were young.

The three all perform Three Thousand Years of Death together and defeat the rogue ninjas.

Kakashi explains to Lee that he wasn't saying that Guy had a long way to go earlier, he was talking about himself and his lackluster mastery of his father's kancho technique. Kakashi says that he's genuinely acknowledged Guy as his rival for a long time now. Guy points out that he is still winning in his matches' tally against Kakashi, anyway.

Kakashi and Guy in charge of the "training excursion".

In the first half of episode 11, the teams are going on a school-trip-like training excursion headed by their teachers. Namely, Guy and Kakashi are seen in charge, dressed like school teachers. Kakashi stands next to Guy while Guy conducts the lottery to decide groups. Kakashi quietly reads his book, and Guy sends the teams off for the day.

They both seem surprised to see Naruto and Lee jump Konohamaru out of jealousy of him being in a group with Sakura. Guy physically breaks up the fight, and Kakashi tells the two that he expects them to be on their best behavior, or else they'll be forced to sit alone in their room on their knees.

Guy and Kakashi watch the group march off in fake cheerfulness after that threat.

At the end of the first half of the episode, Kakashi and Guy are angry when they hear about the trouble that Naruto and Lee caused and punish them.

In the second half of episode 11, Kakashi and Guy are sharing a room at the inn. They are both on patrol at night to make sure none of the students break curfew or sneak out. They stand in the way of the boys' plan to hang out in the girls' room. First, they find Konohamaru sneaking around outside the girls' room and make him sit on his knees under their supervision for the rest of the night as punishment.

Guy holds Konohamaru still while Kakashi uses his Sharingan to copy Konohamaru's handwriting. They left a forged note outside the boys' room that says, in Konohamaru's handwriting, where the girls' room is apparently located, but is actually the location of Tsunade's room.

Sd oni stitch

Konohamaru captured by Guy and Kakashi.

In a brief skit, Kakashi and Guy are imagined as red and blue orgres holding Konohamaru hostage.

In reality, Kakashi and Guy are nonchalantly watching TV together while they keep Konohamaru in the room. Naruto and the other boys plan to try to soak their teachers to force them to leave their room and go to the baths, but their plans have little success.

When Lee comes, Guy asks if something is wrong, and Kakashi offers to check to see if they have anything in the fridge that can help him. Lee pretends to sneeze to splash his drink everywhere, but it misses both Kakashi and Guy and lands on Konohamaru instead.

Next, Choji tries to do a similar plan, and while his fake sneeze is wide enough to hit everyone, Guy quickly dodges and Kakashi uses a substitution jutsu, both without even looking away from their TV, leaving Konohamaru as the only one soaked again.

Kakashi and Guy complain that the kids were being strange and that they're thirsty now, when they realize that all their drinks were used up during the boys' plans. Konohamaru offers them the two sodas he brought in, and Kakashi and Guy thank him with a smile.

When they open the cans, the shaken soda sprays out at both of them, leaving both of them surprised and temporarily blinded while they try to wipe it out of their eyes.

Sd private shower

Kakashi and Guy get in the shower together.

Kakashi and Guy get into their private shower together to wash off the soda, but they can't turn it on because of Shikamaru's shadow jutsu. Instead, both of them run out of their rooms and go to wash off in the inn's hot spring together. Even so, the boys fell for Kakashi's and Guy's trap in the end and went to the wrong room like Kakashi and Guy had planned all along.

Kakashi and Guy deliver episode 11's end previews together. Guy sits on his knees while he does it, because he does not want to make the kids do all the training alone. Kakashi is confused by this decision at first, but lets it go and gets on with the previews. Guy later complains that his legs are going numb, so Kakashi will have to handle the rest, and Kakashi yells at him to pay attention.

In the first half of episode 12, Kakashi is thinking about how wastefully his students use ninjutsu for trivial things like cooling down ramen. He laments it aloud, happening to say it simultaneously with Guy, who is also lamenting about something beside him. Hearing his voice, Kakashi finally notices that Guy is standing on the other side of the tree. Kakashi goes to ask Guy is something is wrong. Guy strikes a Good Guy pose and insists there's nothing for Kakashi to worry about. Kakashi tells Guy that is that's the case, he should go wash the curry off his face, since Guy is completely covered in it for some reason.

Sd 12 angry Kakashi

Kakashi explodes at Guy.

Guy admits that he has the same problem with his students. The reason he is covered in curry is because Lee used a Leaf Whirlwind to blow curry off of himself, which blew Guy's curry all over Guy. Guy says that's not what the moves he taught Lee were supposed to be used for. Kakashi again tells Guy to go wash the curry off his face already. Guy seemingly ignores him and goes on about the situation with Lee. Kakashi tells him that the words of an old man covered in curry don't sound very seriously, and Guy finally responds, asking if Kakashi is accusing him of smelling like an old man. Kakashi shoots back with just as much passion, telling Guy to stop it already.

Kakashi calms himself down quickly and clears his throat. He tells Guy that he can relate to his problem.

Sd 12 curry

Kakashi and Guy discuss their common problem.

They discuss how they can make their students have a better appreciation for their ninja skills. They're too old for a simple blunt pep talk now. They decide to work together to help each other teach their students not to rely so heavily on their ninjutsu. Guy gets an idea to solve their problem suddenly, surprising Kakashi with a sudden outburst. Guy excitedly dances around, splashing curry onto Kakashi, and declares that Kakashi can leave everything to Guy.

The following day, Kakashi leads their students on a trip for "real world experience." Tenten, Lee, and Neji ask where Guy is, and Kakashi lies and says that Guy had something come up, so he asked Kakashi to chaperon his students as well.

Kakashi recalls the plan Guy told him: to have the students do hard labor without the use of their techniques for the day so they appreciate the techniques they have. Kakashi is doubtful that such a plan will work, but Guy is confident in himself.

Kakashi leads the students, but starts to wonder if Guy will really show up. Just then, he sees a tanned man with an afro and a leather jacket and realizes that it's a poorly disguised Guy, who will apparently be acting as the sailor for this mission. Kakashi is sure the students will see right through him, but they all guess wildly incorrect things. Kakashi is relieved. He visibly smiles and imagines how great this will be if it all goes according to plan.

Sd 12 disguise

Kakashi sees Guy's disguise.

Guy announces that on his ship, no ninjutsu whatsoever will be allowed. The students as why, so while Kakashi struggles to think of an excuse, Guy tells them a fake origin story about his life as a delinquent youth in the harbor town. He and his father hadn't seen eye-to-eye at first, but in the end, Guy had returned to take over the family business because he saw how many people were made happy by his father's fishing.

Kakashi remarks that the story did absolutely nothing to explain the ninjutsu band, but all the students are moved to tears and agree to respect the fisherman's wishes. Kakashi is shocked and realizes that he's fallen in the role of tsukkomi for this episode.

Everyone embarks on the ship. Guy tells everyone to get used to the rocking of the waves, but Kakashi points out that Guy is clearly not used to them himself, since he's fighting back his seasickness. Next, Guy tells them that they're going to start fishing, but Choji, Naruto, Lee, and Konohamaru have all already started eating the bait. Guy scolds them for fooling around, but he is eating his bait as well. Kakashi tells Guy that he's setting a bad example. Guy giggles cutely in respond, and Kakashi sweatdrops and says that won't work on him.

Since they're already out of bait, Guy tells everyone that they have bait costumes, and puts on a crab costume himself. Kakashi hits him and tells him that it's pointless if Guy acts as the bait. This leads to a discussion of different kinds of costumes, which leads into a discussion of what girls prefer to see in guys. Naruto says they prefer seeing revealing outfits, Lee says they prefer muscles, and Guy says they prefer medieval underwear.

Kakashi, Tenten, and Sakura all hit them, saying that no one prefers that.

Sd 12 teeheehee

"Don't 'tee-hee-hee' me!"

Everyone just uses their ninjutsu to catch fish instead. Kakashi figures that it was pointless after all. Just then, a giant squid appears. Everyone prepares to fight it with ninjutsu, but Guy reappears at the top of his ship and reminds them that he said no ninjutsu was allowed on his ship. He takes off the disguise and reveals who he really is.

Guy runs out an takes the lead, taking the giant squid out with a single punch. Lee and Kakashi are worried that Guy might have fallen in after it and call out to him, but Guy is just fine, spinning and landing right back on the ship with ease.

Guy gives everyone a rousing speech and reminds them what they all are: ninja. And ninja should save their powers for big important things. They respond affirmatively, and Kakashi smiles, pleased that they were able to pass on the lesson after all.

In the end, Naruto, Lee, and Sakura are going to use ninjutsu to cool off their boiled giant squid, because it is "big" and "important". Kakashi looks on from a distance and notes to himself that he supposes it's not a bad ending.

In the first half of episode 13, Kakashi and Guy are looking over their students' report cards together. Guy is wondering about the practical skills test they Kakashi and Guy have to give their students. The format and requirements are up to the jonin leaders themselves, so Guy is at a bit of a loss. Guy asks Kakashi what he plans to use for his test. Kakashi tells Guy that he'll pass his students if they can beat him in rock-paper-scissors.

Sd 13 report cards

Kakashi and Guy look over their students' progress reports.

Guy is amazed and inspired by Kakashi's plan and decides that he'll pit himself and his three teammates against each other in no-holds-barred battle royale.

Kakashi tells Guy that that's overdoing it, and that Guy's idea would only allow one of his students to pass.

They keep walking together. Kakashi reminisces about the old days, when their students were young and hopeless, and admires the strength they've come to develop. Guy mentions that he's heard that Naruto in particular has become incredible lately.

Kakashi mentions that Naruto has surpassed him, in fact. Kakashi says it's a little frustrating, but the student has to become better than their master eventually. Kakashi walks off, but calls out to tell Guy not to overdo this test with anything too crazy. Guy tells Kakashi that he won't.

Guy decides to put his students to the test to see if they have surpass their teacher as well. He decides to have a one-on-one battle with each of his students as their test.

Tenten and Neji both pass easily, but since Lee is a special case, Guy grades Lee with different criteria, and goes noticeably harder on him during their fight, even opening the gates and using Morning Peacock against Lee. Guy tells Lee that if he can't surpass him like Naruto has surpassed Kakashi, then Lee will be demoted to genin in a week's time. Kakashi watches over their exams from the shadows of a tree.

Sd 13 rugby

Kakashi reacts to Lee's imagine spot of Guy being a football star.

When Lee goes on to reflect on his own, Kakashi goes to talk to him. He says that he heard that Guy really put him through the wringer with that exam of his.

Lee tells Kakashi about his dream to be an amazing ninja, even without ninjutsu or genjutsu. He remembers how hard he's worked day in and day out, all to be like his hero, Might Guy --who in this scenario, he imagines as a sports star instead of a ninja, much to Kakashi's surprise. Kakashi points out that Guy isn't that type of hero, but they should put that aside for the time being.

Lee says that Guy has finally given up on him. Kakashi doubts it, reminding Lee that the eight gates are a double-edged sword of a technique, so there must be a good reason for Guy to resort to them for a test. Lee remembers that Guy is so strict with him in the first place because he believes in Lee's ability to improve eventually.

Sd 13 imitation

Kakashi imitates Guy to cheer Lee on.

Still, Lee is unsure he can beat his master with just taijutsu when Guy is the best in the world at that. Kakashi imitates Guy's expression, voice, and manner of speaking to deliver his next line, a direct quote from Guy: "There's no point in working hard if you don't believe in yourself!"

Kakashi chuckles and pats Lee on the head, reminding Lee that Guy is always telling him to believe in himself first and foremost. Kakashi says that he can tell that Guy is simply ready for Lee to surpass him.

In the second half of episode 13, Kakashi and his team have come to watch Guy's showdown with Lee. Kakashi admits that he felt responsible, since he egged Lee on into accepting Guy's challenge, so he wanted to see it through.

Kakashi officiates the match, telling Guy and Lee to begin their fight. Kakashi gives a play-by-play as it happens.

Sd 13 fight

The fight begins.

Kakashi stands by and watches as Lee and Guy exchange blows. When Lee uses a move that involves octopus chips, Kakashi pulls out his sharingan and remarks that even he can't comprehend the full extent of the flavor of them. However, Kakashi remarks that the time for fooling around is finally drawing to a close and sees that Guy is about to get serious with his counterattack. Guy opens up the Gates and prepares his higher level moves, just as Kakashi anticipated.

Lee is hit by Morning Peacock, but suddenly comes up with a new move to counter it. Lee opens his gates and prepares to fight again, this time vowing to give it his all and win. To surpass Guy's Morning Peacock, Lee uses Morning Chicken.

Kakashi unveils his sharingan again and marvels at Lee's new move, since the chicken wakes before the peacock. Lee manages to get in a clean hit that's faster than Guy's and send Guy flying, but after that, Lee collapses before he can continue. Despite this, Guy counts it as Lee passing his test and sees it as proof that Lee is on his way to surpassing Guy soon. They crow together affectionately like birds.

Kakashi and the others don't understand the gesture exactly, but Kakashi thinks it's good enough that it's over now.

In the first half of episode 14, Guy has the idea to start an idol group in order to get the children of the village more interested in becoming ninja: The Ninjustu Girls. Kakashi can be seen standing in the back row as one of the ninja who were roped into joining the idol group.

Sd 15 Tanabata-0

Hikoboshi (Kakashi) and Orihime (Guy) meet and fall in love.

In the first half of episode 15, the kids arrive at the pool, but find that it is empty. Guy informs everyone that Kakashi is usually in charge of filling up the pool with water style jutsu, but hasn't this year. Tenten worriedly asks if Kakashi is hurt. Guy grits his teeth and mutters his rival's name before show everyone a note that Kakashi left behind.

In the note, Kakashi wrote that he was gone in an effort to find the latest book in the Makeout Paradise series. Guy goes on to explain that the bookstores in town were all sold out and that Kakashi has already been gone for an entire week.

Kakashi and Guy Tanabata

Orihime (Guy) and Hikoboshi (Kakashi) get married.

In the second half of episode 15, the Star Festival (tanabata) is coming up, but everyone is getting the holiday traditions mixed up with other holidays, such as Christmas and New Year's.

The narrator stops to explain the love story behind Tanabata in a short skit, and Guy is the one to convey this story to the other ninja.

In the skit, Guy and Kakashi play the role of Orihime and Hikoboshi respectively, a married couple of starcrossed lovers. Neji plays Hikoboshi's neglected cattle.

Orihime is a beautiful woman and skilled weaver sent to Earth by the gods of the stars to make clothes on her loom, specifically kimono for the gods. Orihime is diligent at her job.

Sd 15 Tanabata honeymoon

Orihime (Guy) and Hikoboshi (Kakashi) enjoying their honeymoon.

However, one day, Orihime comes across Hikoboshi, a handsome young cattle rancher. The two blush at the sight of each other and quickly fall in love.

The two get married and enjoy a carefree, blissful honeymoon together, riding off in a cattle-drawn cart and playing among the stars together, laughing and smiling all the while.

Sd 15 Tanabata lazy

Orihime (Guy) and Hikoboshi (Kakashi) spending time together instead of doing their jobs.

They are so happy and blissful together that they begin to ignore their responsibilities and jobs, opting instead to spend their time playing video games with each other.

The gods grow furious with the couple's laziness, as their kimono are growing old and neglected from not having Orihime to weave newer ones for them, and Hikoboshi's cattle are starving and falling ill from not having Hikoboshi to look after them.

Finally fed up with the jobs not getting down, the angry gods of the stars punish Hikoboshi and Orihime for using their love as an excuse to neglect their jobs and responsibilities.

Sd 15 Tanabata punishment

Orihime (Guy) and Hikoboshi (Kakashi) are punished.

As their punishment, the two are forced by the gods to be separate on opposites sides of a river of heaven.

Thanks to the distance and the river of stars that now lies between them, Hikoboshi and Orihime are now only see each other again once per year, on July 7th, when they can briefly cross the river of stars. The two diligently keep up their duties in hopes of getting their beloved spouses again.

Tanabata is a festival held to celebrate the reunion of the two lovers.

Guy does not want to admit that he has no idea what that story has to do with the tradition of making wishes, though.

In the second half of episode 16, Guy hosts an early morning radio calisthenics workout, but no one shows up. A number of characters are interviewed and asked their reasons for not coming, and some have a small black bar over their eyes to hide their identity. Kakashi does not hide his identity, nonchalantly reading his book during the interview. Kakashi answers that he would burn a whole day's worth of calories if he ran into Guy that early in the morning.

When Guy watches Kakashi's response to the interview, he reacts with shock as if he had been hit by an explosive. Guy changes his classes to night time to adjust to the criticism, but no one still shows up. In the followup interview, Kakashi says that if he ran into Guy that late at night, it would double his stress and exhaustion.

Sd 16 calisthenics

Kakashi introduces the crowd of people that were waiting on Guy's release from jail.

Moreover, because Guy overcompensated in ridiculous ways to respond to the criticisms from the interviews, he looks like a very suspicious figure waiting around at night. Guy is subsequently arrested for being suspicious. Once Guy is released from prison, he goes back to his radio calisthenics, determined to lead them again even if no one comes. His heart is lifted when he sees that Tenten, Lee, and Neji were waiting for his return. Kakashi comes out from behind Lee and tells Guy that he and the others were also awaiting Guy's return. Kakashi explains everything that Tenten, Lee, and Neji had done to convince the town to come while they were waiting for Guy to be released from jail. Guy cries tears of joy.

Kakashi remarks that Guy seems more toned down now, so Kakashi can weather exercising with Guy without worrying about losing too many calories.

Sd 18

Guy laughs and talks with Kakashi.

Guy finally shows off his new calisthenics moves, which are so bizarre and intense that Kakashi and the others are visibly shocked. The crowd disperses after all.

In the second half of episode 18, a brief scene is shown in which Kakashi and Guy are having a conversation together. As always, Guy is laughing boisterously and Kakashi is staring at him with an aloof expression.

In the first half of episode 22, Guy and Kakashi take up their students' summer homework together.

Sd 22 desk

Kakashi and Guy discuss the students' summer homework.

Guy and Kakashi praise everyone for completing their homework, and in particular are proud of Lee's and Naruto's journals. Kakashi says that those two truly captured how important and precious time spent together with friends is.

Kakashi notes that he and Guy were both moved most deeply by one journal entry in particular: the one in which Lee detailed how all of his friends helped him on his homework. Reading it, the students realize that it admitted that Lee and Naruto had procrastinated and that the others had helped him, despite their orders not to work together on the homework.

Guy orders all of the students to write more reports as punishment for disobeying the rules. Kakashi stands to the side and goes back to reading his Make-Out Paradise book.

Sd 23 challenge

Guy and Kakashi exchange their usual banter.

In the first half of episode 23, Team Guy and Team Kakashi are sent to do a joint mission together by Tsunade, but Naruto and Lee have switched bodies and are trying to keep from being found out.

Kakashi and Guy are the last to arrive. They come walking together, Kakashi with his face in a book while Guy just stares at him. Kakashi apologizes for running late and claims that he got lost on the road of dreams, but Guy asserts that Kakashi really just took too long.

Guy smiles when he sees that they're all near the ramen stand. He challenges Kakashi to a quick eating competition, but Kakashi turns him down, saying he would just embarrass Guy in front of his students.

Sd 23 hug

Kakashi is shocked to see "Naruto" choose Guy over him.

Lee (who is currently in Naruto's body) tearfully exclaims that he knows Guy would beat Kakashi because Guy is the best. Kakashi is shocked to see that he's lost popularity with who he assumes is his own student. Kakashi shakily laments to himself that his popularity has fallen and wonders if it is because he was late again.

Guy is off-put and surprised by "Naruto's" sudden declaration at first, but he thanks Naruto and is touched that he, of all people, would respect and admire Guy so, even choosing him over Kakashi. Guy exclaims that this is the epitome of youth and calls Lee over to share in the moment.

Naruto (who is in Lee's body) completely ignores them all and just orders a bowl of ramen. Similarly to Kakashi's earlier reaction, Guy is shocked and devastated that his own student would choose ramen over him.

Sd 23 seal

Kakashi seals the Nine-Tails to save Guy.

Now that everyone has arrived, Kakashi and Guy stand before their teams to go over the mission briefing. Kakashi explains that they need to hunt down rogue ninja hiding out in the forest.

In the second half of episode 23, Kakashi and Guy stand together with their teams to face off against the rogue ninja.

During the battle, Kakashi points out to Guy that Naruto and Lee aren't acting like themselves today. The Nine-Tails notices that the mind-swap technique has allowed the seal on him to become weakened, so the tailed beast (in Lee's case, browed beast) begins to take over.

Sd 23 dodge

Kakashi saves an unconscious Guy from the explosion.

Lee swears to himself that he can't lose control for Guy-sensei's sake. In doing so, he runs over and hugs Guy, still in Naruto's body with the tailed beast chakra leaking out, hurting Guy. Kakashi saves Guy by putting a paper seal over Naruto.

The rogue ninja take the chance to aim a volley of kunai with explosive tags at them. Since Guy is unconscious from Lee's hug, Kakashi carries Guy over his shoulder as they evade the explosion.

Eventually, Kakashi, Guy, and the others realize that Naruto and Lee have swapped minds.

Sd 23 swap

Kakashi (in Tenten's body) tells Guy (In Neji's body) that this mind swap is no big deal.

Everyone returns to the village so Lee and Naruto can beg Ino to switch them back. They accidentally startle her again, so she is distracted and trips while casting her technique, switching everyone's minds.

Kakashi (who is in Tenten's body) is calm and nonchalant, casting a glance at who he instinctively knows to be Guy. Kakashi says simply, "No big deal, right, Guy?" to which Guy (who is in Neji's body) answers with an exclamation of "YOUTH!"

In the first half of episode 27, Tsunade turns to Kakashi and Guy for help.

Sd 27 problem

Tsunade tells Kakashi and Guy her dilemma.

The two jonin find Tsunade lamenting over mistaking her ticket as the lottery-winning one and promising Lee's team that she would take him to get 5-star sushi at the bar counter to celebrate. She is unsure how to save face or to afford to treat the young ninja now that she has realized her mistake. Guy and Kakashi are walking through town together when they notice Tsunade, so they ask her what the problem is. She explains her conundrum.

Kakashi remarks that the students are a little too young to be sitting at the bar anyway, which gives Guy an idea for how to keep Tsunade's reputation intact while also making the kids forget all about wanting to eat sushi at a bar.

Sd Kakashi and Guy sushi

Kakashi and Guy tell their students they're too young.

Feeling sympathy for their hokage, Guy promises that he and Kakashi will do whatever they can to help her out of this. Guy rushes over to Kakashi's side and puts a hand on his shoulder.

Kakashi looks exasperated and responds with a bewildered expression, asking why he has to be a part of this.

The day of the sushi dinner arrives, and Tsunade grimaces as she walks with the excited students. Suddenly, they are stopped by Kakashi and Guy, who stand back to back wearing sushi chef uniforms. Guy says he heard that they were all heading to a sushi bar to stuff themselves. Lee affirms this, causing Guy to exclaim that they're all too young to sit at the counter.

Sd 27 money

The "economic bubble" of the Leaf Village.

Guy goes on to claim that during the Leaf's economic bubble, all the young men were living it up and eating at the bar counter to their heart's content, but once that bubble burst, their spendthrift ways caught up to them.

Kakashi asks Guy what economic bubble he could be referring to, as the only bubbles here were apparently the ones in Guy's head. Guy ignores the remark and continues, saying that eating at the bar is a dangerous thing that can swallow young men whole. Kakashi jokes that he's surprised Guy hasn't simply been swallowed whole by the fanciful story of his.

Sd 27 determined

Kakashi and Guy put their students to the test.

Guy tells the students that they have to prove they're grown-up ninja who can't be swayed by temptation before he is willing to let them sit at the bar. Kakashi says that Guy is exaggerating, but Kakashi agrees with the point Guy is making.

Lee says that although they are young, their will is unshakable. Guy and Kakashi decide to put everyone to the test. Guy and Kakashi say they'll only acknowledge the kids as grown up ninja if they can pass. The kids are sure it'll be easy, but Guy and Kakashi smirk at each other and chuckle.

Sd 27 greet

Kakashi and Guy at the sushi bar.

The first to try is Sakura. Sakura walks in and is surprised to see Kakashi sitting at a suit and drinking at the bar while Guy serves. Sakura takes a seat next to Kakashi. Guy takes their orders. Kakashi orders jis sushi and tells Sakura to go ahead. Sakura had wanted the salmon roe, but feeling rushed, Sakura says she'll have the same thing as Kakashi ordered, which causes her to fail since a young employee wouldn't order something so expensive when her boss was treating her.

Next is Konohamaru. Guy and Kakashi greet him as he walks into the bar. Determined not to make the same mistake as Sakura, Konohamaru immediately orders the salmon roe, but upon eating it, faints from how spicy it is. Kakashi and Guy watch with surprised looks on their faces. He failed, as it had too much wasabi for him.

Sd 27 wind

Kakashi and Guy see Lee's strategy.

Next is Neji, who is determined to get fatty tuna. Guy crossdresses and orders the most expensive things on the menu while flirting with Neji. Kakashi prepares Guy's sushi and asks what Neji will be having. Neji sadly orders a simple cucumber roll, for fear of the cost all of this will add up to. As such, he fails. Next is Tenten, who orders flounder. Kakashi takes her order. Meanwhile, Guy acts as a young child for this skit and begs his mother Tsunade to get flounder for him as well. Tsunade refuses. Young Guy stares longingly at Tenten's sushi. Tenten feels too guilty to eat.

Sd 27 Tsunade cry

Kakashi and Guy admit defeat.

Next is Naruto. To avoid falling for a trap like the others, Naruto occupies all the available bar seats with his shadow clones. Kakashi and Guy unleash "counter-punch", launching all of the Narutos away at once. Guy and Kakashi get fired up, as only one student remains. Kakashi tells Lee that conveyor belt sushi should be plenty for kids like them. This gives Lee an idea. He orders lean tuna and launches into a Leaf Whirlwind, much to the shock of Guy and Kakashi. Spinning like a conveyor belt gives him the courage he needs to eat his sushi.

Sd 28 walk

Kakashi and Guy happily lead everyone to hunt for mushrooms.

Kakashi and Guy smile and admit to Tsunade that the last one had managed to get past them. Kakashi and Guy accept defeat, but Lee says that he's realized that he's happier with conveyor belt sushi for now. Tsunade happily offers to treat them to that, since it's much cheaper.

Everyone eats so much that it costs Tsunade a fortune anyway.

In the first half of episode 28, Guy and Kakashi lead their students on a hunt for matsutake mushrooms to celebrate the arrival of autumn. Kakashi trails right behind a cheerfully singing Guy. Neji notes that both Guy and Kakashi seem like they're on cloud nine.

Sd 28 only mushroom

Kakashi and Guy are sad to see how few mushrooms there are.

Kakashi and Guy are shocked to find that there are no mushrooms. Both express their disappointment.

A farmer explains that because of the unusually hot summer, the mushrooms did not grow well, showing them the single mushroom he had been able to hunt down. Kakashi and Guy look down at the solitary mushroom in the basket.

They agree to cancel the hunt, but Tenten and Neji, wanting the group to do something as a means of helping Hinata spend time with Naruto, insist that Guy and Kakashi put on the mushroom hunt anyway. Guy and Kakashi are both still craving mushrooms, so they glance at each other. Feelinh pressured, Guy declares that it will be a competition to see who can gather the most mushrooms.

Sd 33 book

In the end, Hinata is the only one to find a mushroom.

Kakashi and Guy sit next to each other at the end of the table while they eat together with everyone, happy with the meal they had managed to prepare from the single mushroom.

In the second half of episode 31, Orochimaru is creating special deals on November 27th so everyone will have plans and forget Lee's birthday. Guy is especially excited for November 27th because it will be Fishing Day, and the village will be allowing everyone to use the fishing holes as much as they want. The narrator (Lee) instructs them to resist the temptation to open the book. Tenten angrily points out that there's no point, since the only one who reads books like this in the first place is Kakashi.

Having heard his name, Kakashi appears behind Tenten suddenly, casually saying, "You called?" while already reading the copy of Icha Icha Dance with Guy's swimsuit picture in it. Kakashi distractedly says hi to a shocked Tenten and continues reading the book.

Lee asks them why they aren't curious and points out that even Orochimaru seems to want to get married, so Lee wonders why those two are not. Nervously, Kakashi gives the excuse that he would rather focus on his reading and Guy gives the excuse that he would rather focus on his training. Lee points out that those are both excuses one would hear from men who were too old to find a wife at all. Kakashi and Guy both react with shock to that accusation.

When the race for the gift exchange begins, team eight runs into one of the doors, and in the first room, they come across Kakashi and Guy working at a desk together, dressed in formal work attire. Kakashi writes something while Guy leans against his desk and talks to him.

Sd 39 team 8

Guy and Kakashi invite the others to join them.

Guy says that the whole world is focused on Christmas, but those two were left out in the cold, stuck working late in the office and being single on the big holiday. Kakashi seems unconcerned, saying that Christmas was mostly for the youngsters and referring to Guy as "Chief Guy" as he continues to look over his documents.

Chief Guy smiles and invites Chief Kakashi to go drinking with him down by the station later. Kakashi smiles back and agrees emphatically, saying that it sounds like a plan. Kakashi happily says that the two of them will celebrate together in the only way single guys know how to.

Guy slides over next to Kakashi and waves a hand dismissively, telling Kakashi that Hinata was still a young woman, so she probably had plans to spend the night together with her boyfriend. Hearing this, Hinata gets depressed. Shino and Kiba offer to go in her place, saying that Hinata is sick and needs to leave the office early. Thus, Kakashi and Guy drag Shino and Kiba out to drink with them while Hinata escapes.

On Kakashi's turn, he lands on a square that allows him to receive words of gratitude from Naruto and Sakura. Kakashi tearfully embraces them and gets a extra roll, and Guy and the other jonin are jealous of his luck. Kakashi chuckles and rolls again, calling out, "Sorry, Guy, but I'm leaving you behind!" In the first half of episode 43, Kakashi and Guy burst onto the scene to provide backup to Lee, Neji, and Tenten after the blow their covers. Kakashi looks back at their students and voices his agreement with Guy's sentiment. Lee and Naruto finally agree and run off, inspired by their teacher's encouragements.

Manga[]

In chapter 4, Lee, Neji, and Tenten meet up to watch a showdown between Guy and his rival, Kakashi. Guy keeps sneezing, clearly sick, and Kakashi suggests they call off the challenge for today and let Guy rest to get over his cold. Guy refuses, saying that the Springtime of Youth waits for no one. When he sneezes again, Kakashi takes the chance to get behind him a deliver a finishing blow of 1000 Years of Death to quickly end the match.

Kakashi says that now that the match is over, Guy will have plenty of time to go home and get some rest before the next one. However, Guy is writhing in agony on the ground from the kancho. Kakashi is shocked to see a grown man be so defeated by a simple kancho.

Since Guy is out of commission, Kakashi takes over watching Guy's team for him. Tenten and Neji complain that Guy is always picking losing battles with Kakashi, but Lee defends Guy, saying that he and Kakashi are equals and rivals. He hears Kakashi mumble about how it's already been 20 consecutive victories, and Lee is shocked that Guy had apparently lied to him about being Kakashi's equal. Tenten tries to console Lee, saying that Kakashi is just that powerful, so it's not a sign of weakness that Guy loses to him.

Lee begins to doubt that he can become strong just by training with Guy. Instead, Lee decides to devote himself to learning from Kakashi-sensei, starting with 1000 Years of Death. Kakashi says Lee is free to try the move if he wants to.

Lee begins to dress and act just like Kakashi by the time Team Guy has their next mission. Kakashi is running late, so the three students head out on their own, and Guy watches over them from afar.

Lee tries to challenge the rogue ninja on his own, and just when they are about to take him down, Guy appears and rescues him. Kakashi appears right after Guy and explains that, despite Guy still feeling sick, he forced himself to rush over here to protect his students.

Kakashi explains to Lee that Guy is a lot like Lee. Guy lacked much natural talent, but he put in the effort and kept challenging Kakashi again and again so that he could become the man he is today.

Lee throws off his Kakashi clothes and declares that Guy is the coolest role model after all. Kakashi, Lee, and Guy all get serious and launch a joint kancho, dubbed 3000 Years of Death. Lee hugs Guy, and Kakashi gets back to reading, saying to himself that the protagonist of the story was up by 20 wins already. Lee realizes that Kakashi was referring to his story and not to his score with Guy when he mentioned the 20 consecutive wins earlier. Guy clarifies that he is still currently winning against Kakashi in their rivalry.

Later, Lee and Guy practice 1000 Years of Death together, and Tenten wishes she had stayed with Kakashi.

In chapter 14, Kakashi entrusts Guy with the task of watching over his ninken, since they are not feeling well and Kakashi was called in by Tsunade.

Guy thinks about the friends who always have his back.

In chapter 21, Guy smiles as he tells Kisame that his greatest happiness is in finding the right friends to always watch his back. While he says this, Guy thinks of his students and Kakashi.

In chapter 28, Guy and his team are about to embark on a ship for a mission as soon as the team that is working with them arrives. It turns out to be Kakashi and his team. The two teams are set to investigate a mysterious oceanic region where ships keep disappearing. Kakashi tells the students that since he and Guy are there, everything should go fine, even if their compasses stop working.

Guy has a bad bought of seasickness as soon as they set off, though. Lee takes the helm and navigates them to what turns out to be a deserted island. Kakashi supports the still queasy Guy and suggests that they all rest on there for a while.

After they disembark from the deserted island, Guy takes the helm and leads them somewhere else. This time, they all briefly find themselves on a strange island where the inhabitants all resemble Guy. The Guys give a warm welcome to everyone except Kakashi, who they all line up to challenge to rock-paper-scissors.

They keep traveling around to these strange islands until Neji finally sees through the trick and they confront the missing-nin showing them all these illusions. Team Guy and Team Kakashi combine their efforts and defeat him.

They are glad to be able to return to shore, especially Guy, but Kakashi soon informs them that they need to head back out to fight a giant squid.

Sd Kakashi vs Guy

Kakashi and Guy face off in another challenge.

In chapter 29, Kakashi and Guy participate in more matches to test their rivalry --a dramatic battle of rock-paper-scissors. Guy loses, and Tenten suggests that rather than an even rival, Kakashi is just better than Guy all around. Determined to prove himself to his students, Guy challenges Kakashi to a real match. Kakashi turns him down at first because he doesn't want to, but Guy refuses to take no for an answer and tells him to meet him the following day for the showdown.

Guy recalls his many battles against Kakashi in their youth, which were apparently mostly rock-paper-scissors. Guy has always wanted to prove himself against the genius prodigy, Kakashi, since no one believed in Guy's abilities at first.

Kakashi finally shows up, several hours late. Guy and Kakashi begin their all-out battle with some ridiculous techniques and some serious techniques, eventually elevating to Guy activating the 7th gate and using Daytime Tiger, which Kakashi counters with Kamui. Guy is about to take down the exhausted Kakashi, when Guy suddenly stops and says that he notices something is off about Kakashi. Kakashi admits that he's tired from a mission just recently returned from.

Kakashi admits that he lost this one, but Guy calls it a tie, since there's no point in them facing each other if Kakashi is so exhausted. Guy finally admits that Kakashi truly is strong, and Kakashi says that he's been able to become this strong because he was Guy's eternal rival.

Guy is moved to tears and rushes to hug Kakashi. As penalty for losing, everyone practices the farting "jutsu" that Guy used earlier in the fight.

In chapter 37, Tenten and Lee travel back in time to when Kakashi and Guy were still children. Kakashi mistakes Lee for Guy and gets onto him for being weird and saying weird things that Kakashi assumes are false about his future. When the real Guy arrives and challenges Kakashi to a competition, Kakashi is confused and asks how there are two Guys. Lee explains that he is simply Guy's fan, to which Rin replies that unlike Kakashi, Guy is not so impressive that he would have a fan. Guy is visibly disheartened by the statement, but Lee cheers him up.

Later, Kakashi and Guy join the others in a combination attack against spies that had infiltrated the village.

Guy calls after Kakashi and asks him if he doesn't want to try Teuchi's ramen after all. Kakashi says that unlike them, he doesn't have the free time to spend waiting around.

In the Ninja Bond Chat, one of the prompts with Kakashi mentions that Guy has not played with him for a while. The possible responses to this are either: "Could it be that Kakashi is lonely?" (to which he responds that he simply can't help but notice Guy's absence) and "I guess he's scared he'll be beaten by Kakashi-sensei" (to which Kakashi responds by laughing and voicing his agreement). The latter is the correct answer to increase the bond points.

There is also a bond chat question in which Guy says, "I don't want to lose to anybody --especially not Kakashi." The correct response to this is to make Guy happy is, "You guys are a good pair." The incorrect response is, "Don't forget, your opponent is the Copy Ninja Kakashi!" (to which Guy will respond by reminding the main character that he is Konoha's Green Beast in his own right).

Guy comes out, saying that Kakashi has caught onto him, but he won't be fooled into thinking this is the real Kakashi and the real Konoha genin, since this castle frequently shows false illusions of one's allies. Kakashi tries to convince Guy that it really is them, but Guy refuses to listen and begins to attack. Kakashi gives up and faces Guy in a fight.

After Guy has been defeated, he notes that "evil illusions" fought so much like Guy's real comrades that they had almost successfully convinced Guy that they were the real deal.

Tenten, who was with Guy, tries to calm him down and get him to consider the possibility that these were their real allies and not illusions, and Kakashi agrees with Tenten, saying they really are who they say they are.

Kakashi leaves Guy in charge of the group.

Kakashi's group is finally able to explain their full story to Guy, and Guy apologizes for confusing them for more of the castle's illusions. Kakashi notes that Guy and Tenten must have been having a tough him here as well. Guy says that he had separated from Lee and run into Tenten, and along the way, they had destroyed a seal in the castle.

Kakashi asks Guy what he plans to do now. Since Guy can't just go back after coming this far, he decides to join Kakashi's group.

Shortly thereafter, Kakashi receives a message from Jiraiya and has to leave. He tells Guy that he'll place him in charge of the group. Guy tells Kakashi that he can rest easy with Guy in charge here.

Suddenly, Guy leaps in, declaring that he wouldn't be letting them take Kakashi and that they'll both pay for what the torture they made Kakashi endure. Kakashi is surprised to see Guy.

Kakashi and Guy UltimateNinja2 training

Everyone is gathered on the training fields.

Kisame is unimpressed with the "mighty stupid-looking guy", but Itachi warns Kisame not to underestimate this opponent. Kisame and Guy fight, and both acknowledge that the other has a fair amount of skill. Itachi tells Kisame that this has wasted too much time now, so they have to retreat.

Later, Kakashi watches while Guy trains Naruto's taijutsu on the training fields.

Chapter 3[]

Raido and Genma pass on a message to Kakashi from Guy, asking Kakashi to meet Guy in the training field.

Later, Kakashi is panting and exhausted, having been brought to his knees after his fight with Orochimaru reached a stalemate. Orochimaru himself is tired as well, remarking that Kakashi is stubbornly good for a man in a poor condition as he's currently in.

Kakashi and Guy UltimateNinja2 rival

Guy praises Kakashi's Will of Fire and comes to the rescue again.

Kabuto notices that Orochimaru's strength is reaching its limit.

Kakashi is reaching his limit as well, though. However, Kakashi tries to power through it, pushing himself back up to his feet and refusing to admit defeat yet. Kabuto and Orochimaru are surprised and annoyed at Kakashi's tenacity, especially when Kakashi declares that he'll protect the Hidden Leaf Village even now.

Guy, on the other hand, is proud of the declaration. He appears suddenly, leaping in and saying that he's proud of his rival for trying so hard to protect their home. Asuma appears with Guy as well. Kakashi is surprised to see the two of them. Guy scolds Kakashi for pushing himself too far, but Guy goes on to say that everything Kakashi did was out of his genuine love for the Leaf Village and out of his Will of Fire. Guy is inspired by Kakashi's spirit and decides that he will continue the fight in Kakashi's place.

Kakashi and Guy UltimateNinja2 careful

Kakashi warns Guy to be careful.

Orochimaru says that Guy is always interrupting him, and orders Kabuto to use the Gedo mark. Kabuto says it's impossible with the little strength that Orochimaru has left. Orochimaru is determined to handle this even at his current level of strength. Kakashi calls out in worry for Guy, and Guy answers affirmatively.

Kabuto steps in as Guy's opponent in his master's place. Orochimaru disappears, so Guy says he'll beat Kabuto and force him to tell where Orochimaru has hidden himself. Kakashi warns Guy to be careful, because Kabuto is a formidable opponent, and Kabuto doubts that the likes of Guy would be able to give him any trouble.

Kakashi and Guy UltimateNinja2 don't

Kakashi tells Guy not to give chase.

Guy, on the other hand, is perfectly ready to begin. He tells Kabuto to show how good he really is, and then they begin their fight.

Both compliment the other's skill, but Kabuto is the one who has been brought to his knees. However, Kabuto heals himself and gets back up. Kabuto says that he's stalled for long enough, and quickly runs away despite Guy's anger and provocations. Kabuto is clearly annoyed, but he says that maybe he'll see them again someday to continue this fight.

Guy prepares to chase after him, but Kakashi stop him and warns Guy not to recklessly chase after Orochimaru and Kabuto on his own. Guy reluctantly listens to Kakashi, grunting his dissatisfaction with these results.

Kakashi writhes in pain and apologizes to Guy and Asuma. Asuma says it's fine, and Guy says it's actually a good feeling to be able to save his arch rival like this.

Kakashi and Guy UltimateNinja2 Tsunade

Guy and Tsunade think Kakashi is amazing.

Afterwards, Guy and Tsunade watch Kakashi reunite with his students as if everything was just fine. Guy and Tsunade talk about how Kakashi is amazing for being able to hide his pain so it doesn't show to his students that he was just in the fight of his life.

Guy asks Tsunade if Kakashi will be able to use his Sharingan again, and Tsunade says that even though he can't, he'll still have to look after his students until they're old enough to fend for themselves properly.

Guy is amazed, saying that Kakashi is really something incredible.

Guy tells Kakashi to hurry up and finish his work so they can have their battle already, and even offers to help Kakashi get his work done. Kakashi starts to turn down the offer, but he soon relents to Guy's rushed enthusiasm and tells him what work Kakashi needs to finish before he can battle: he has to find Pakkun, and he has to complete a mission. Guy promises to go search for Pakkun and disappears in a puff of smoke. Kakashi sighs and asks Naruto to keep an eye on Guy for him while Kakashi waited out his own mission.

Once Guy and Naruto find Pakkun, Guy is excited about the prospect of finally getting to get on with his battle with Kakashi. Guy returns to Kakashi and reports in, saying that now that Pakkun has been found, Kakashi has no more excuses he can use to weasel out of today's battle. Kakashi is surprised that Guy has actually managed to find Pakkun, but still says that he has to take a raincheck, because he is still waiting to receive orders for the mission he mentioned earlier.

Kakashi thanks Naruto for his help in keeping an eye on Guy. He gives Naruto the combination jutsu for Eternal Rivals. He says that Guy forced him to take it, but Kakashi had no use for it.

Extra Story Matches[]

There are several fights that can be purchased as bonus levels from Anko's shop that detail fights not covered in the main story. One extra story match is Kakashi vs Guy.

The opening narration of the bonus fight states: Kakashi-sensei and Guy-sensei— two lifelong rivals. Who is the stronger of the two?

Kakashi mentions to Guy that it's been a while since the last time they had a match against each other. Guy reminds Kakashi that their current score is 50 wins for Guy and 49 wins for Kakashi. Guy playfully apologizes and says that he won't allow Kakashi to get as many wins as Guy has. Kakashi tells Guy that he is foolish to count each and every win like that, so Kakashi says that during this match, he'll be serious for a change.

Guy says that he has a plan to counter Kakashi's sharingan and win his 51st point, so Kakashi warns Guy that he has far more up his sleeve than just his sharingan. Kakashi also points out that Kakashi knows how all of Guy's taijutsu works, so he won't be caught by surprise. Guy says that Kakashi's not fast enough to put his knowledge of Guy's taijutsu into practical application in the fight. Guy makes a determined expression and asks Kakashi if he's ready to fight yet.

They fight, and Kakashi wins the match. Guy says that he can see why Kakashi is good enough to be considered his rival, and takes the loss. Guy swears to Kakashi that his students will ace the next chunin exam for sure. Kakashi says that Team 7 will be taking the chunin exam this year as well. He thinks it will be interesting to see how their teams stack up against each other.

If Kakashi loses the match instead, Guy taunts Kakashi by saying that he feels sorry for Naruto for having Kakashi as a teacher. Kakashi offers to train Naruto in Kakashi's place so that Naruto could become a cool ninja like Lee.

When set against each other, Kakashi and Guy have custom intro and victory quotes in battle.

Naruto: The Broken Bond[]

The Last Stand[]

Towards the beginning of the game, Kakashi and Guy can both be seen attending Hiruzen's funeral after the Sand Invasion of the Chunin exams.

Guy's Mysterious Illness[]

TheBrokenBond why

Kakashi mentions that Guy's flowers grow all around the village, not just in the forest.

Naruto finds Kiba and Neji in a discussion with Guy, who says that he cannot train with them because he is currently disfigured in some way, although it unclear how, because Guy is hiding his head underneath a bucket. Neji insists that Guy would always want them to train their hardest, so Guy mentions that the only way to cure Guy's ailment is for the three boys to retrieve a certain flower from the woods for him. They agree to do so, so Guy marks the spot on the map for them to head to and sends them on their way.

When the three return, Kakashi can be seen hanging around near Guy, leaning on the wall near him and reading his book nonchalantly, apparently having come to join him while the boys were completing the task.

Neji, Kiba, and Naruto give Guy the flower, and Neji asks what ailment Guy has specifically and what the flower was for. Guy removes the bucket from his head and reveals that the flower is simply an ingredient for his homemade shampoo. Guy insists that he couldn't be seen having a bad hair day, much to the shock of the genin.

TheBrokenBond flowers (3)

The flowers, growing a short distance from where Kakashi and Guy are standing.

Kakashi interjects then, saying that while he understood why Guy needed the flower, he didn't understand why Guy sent the boys way out to the forest to search for the flower. Kakashi reveals that the flower Guy uses in his shampoo can be found growing all around the village, even pointing out a nearby patch of the flowers. Neji, Kiba, and Naruto are even more stunned and ask about the bandits that they had had to fight to get the flowers.

Guy says that the bandits were simply men that Guy had hired to make getting the flower harder for the boys and push them to their limits. Guy views the whole ordeal as a training exercise for them. He advises them that even a task as simple as harvesting flowers can be a valuable part of a training regimen in the right circumstances, showing that Guy had trained them after all, just as they had asked him to in the beginning.

Guy thanks the boys for their help and gives them a reward for their trouble. He hangs back and continues to stay beside Kakashi while Naruto leaves.

Chapter 8: A Dangerous Trade! Who is Gonna Win?[]

Uzumaki Chronicles Chapter8 (1)

Kakashi plans to observe the situation with Guy.

Kakashi and Tsunade decide that they need to formulate a plan to deal with the Shirogane clan and make it look like the Leaf Village is giving them the spirit orb they want. For this plan, Kakashi and Guy meet with Naruto and Lee at the entrance to the village.

Kakashi briefs the group on what the strategy will entail. Kakashi ensures them that he has some tricks up his sleeves, but for now, Naruto will be delivering the orb. Kakashi and Guy would lay low and keep and eye on things while the exchange happened. Naruto is supposed to use his shadow clones to block off all routes of escape for them when they come for the orb. That should buy enough time for Guy and Kakashi to close in and attack. If

Uzumaki Chronicles Chapter8 (2)

Guy and Kakashi lie in wait.

Kakashi and Guy can't stop them, then it is Lee's job to chase after them.

Naruto and Lee go to meet with the representative from the Shirogane clan. Kakashi and Guy hide and wait for their opportunity to strike. As Gando approaches the orb, Kakashi and Guy stand up and get ready for Naruto's signal. However, as soon as Naruto's shadow clones appear, Gando creates a puppet barrier that prevents Kakashi and Guy from getting near them. Gando throws the orb up to a bee puppet and manages to get away with it.

Uzumaki Chronicles Chapter8 (3)

Kakashi and Guy held back by the barrier.

Naruto has to fight a puppet Gando. Kakashi and Guy manage to break the barrier and quickly appear on either side of Naruto to defend him. Naruto tells Kakashi that Gando manages to absond with the orb, but Guy tells them to focus on the battle at hand because the puppets are about to attack.

Uzumaki Chronicles Chapter8 (4)

Kakashi and Guy arrive to help Naruto.

The three of them defeat the puppets and interrogate Gando, who used himself as bait while the puppets got away. Naruto suddenly notices that Guy has disappeared. Kakashi explains that Guy went after Lee to chase after the orb.

Naruto asks Kakashi if he things Guy and Lee will be able to get the spirit orb back, but Kakashi dodges the question. Naruto and Kakashi return to the Hidden Leaf Village instead of going after Guy and Lee.

Uzumaki Chronicles Chapter8 (5)

Kakashi apologizes to Naruto, Guy, and Lee.

When they report in to Tsunade, Kakashi tells Tsunade that they made off with the orb and Guy and Lee were pursuing it. She hopes that Guy and Lee manage to find the Shirogane Clan's hideout, but otherwise, she doesn't seem to care much about the loss of the orb. Guy comes in and reports that their pursuit was a failure. Lee was so crushed about failing the mission that he is currently running 500 laps around the village on his hands.

Tsunade and Kakashi reveal that the orb they lost was fake.

Kakashi apologizes for keeping it a secret from Guy, Naruto, and Lee. He tells them that it was thanks to their help that they were able to pass the fake orb off to the Shirogane Clan successfully, though. It should buy them enough time to figure out a way to destroy the real spirit orb before the clan realizes they don't have it.

Chapter 10: The Final Showdown! Destroy the Puppets![]

Uzumaki Chronicles Chapter10 (1)

Kakashi reveals that he tricked Guy.

Naruto runs into Guy while he fighting puppets in the hideout. Naruto takes out one of them for Guy, much to Guy's dismay, as it turns out he was apparently having some sort of match with Kakashi. Guy has managed to defeat 212 puppets on his own, but he wants to beat his ultimate rival Kakashi's record of 1000 puppets.

Lee asks if it's impossible to take out 1000 puppets in so little time, but Guy says that enemies naturally go for the stronger opponents, so the fact that Kakashi was able to defeat so many is a testament to his strength in and of itself. He and Lee go off to keep fighting more puppets.

Later, Naruto finds Kakashi staking out the hideout further in. Naruto asks Kakashi if he really defeated a thousand puppets like Guy said he did. As it turns out, it was a lie Kakashi told Guy to get him off his back.

Kakashi Saga[]

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (1)

Kakashi and Guy get their missions.

Hokage Tsunade is sitting in her desk reviewing the current events to herself. Her annoyed grumbling is interrupted by a knock on the door, and the two jonin she had been waiting for finally arrive: Kakashi and Guy. Kakashi announces that they're both here. Tsunade says they better have come discreetly, and Guy promises that they took strict precautions on their way. Coming from Guy, the statement does not fill Tsunade with much confidence, but she goes on to brief them, anyway.

Tsunade tells Kakashi and Guy that the ANBU Black Ops have confirmed sightings of Akatsuki activity lately. Guy is confused, because Jiraiya's notes suggest that the Akatsuki shouldn't be coming after Naruto for a long time, to which Tsunade replies that she's just relaying information she received from ANBU. Kakashi voices his worry about Naruto's safety. Tsunade tells Kakashi that Naruto is out on a mission with Sakura and he should be returning soon, but Kakashi argues that instead of waiting, they should find Naruto and Sakura and bring them back to the village as quickly as possible.

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (2)

Guy compares himself and Lee to Kakashi and Naruto.

Tsunade orders Kakashi to be on his way immediately, but reminds them not to let Naruto catch on to the state of things. Tsunade orders Guy to investigate the areas where the Akatsuki had been spotted and figure out what their objective is. Kakashi says that he'll join Guy's investigation after he retrieves Naruto and Sakura. Guy is confused and asks Kakashi what he means by that, but Kakashi smiles and tells Guy that it's nothing. Instead of elaborating, Kakashi tells Guy that the two of them should start preparing to depart.

They meet up again later at the entrance to the village, but this time, Lee is there too. Kakashi seems apprehensive and asks Guy if he plans to bring Lee along with him. Guy explains that Lee will be a go-between with the village, since this a secret mission and he trusts Lee completely.

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (3)

Kakashi wishes Guy good luck.

Kakashi walks over to Guy and leans in to whisper that they're up against the Akatsuki, so Lee is not of a high enough skill level to be of use if things get bad in the mission. Guy cuts him off and answers seriously, saying that Lee will stay out of battle, and even if it came to that, Guy would protect Lee as fiercely as Kakashi would protect Naruto. Kakashi folds his arms over his chest, but he admits that he sees Guy's point and lets it go for now.

Guy tells Kakashi to hurry up and go, since he's on a time-sensitive mission. Kakashi smiles and waves, wishing Guy and Lee the best of luck before he heads off. Guy and Lee head out, too.

Kakashi finds Naruto and Sakura and escorts them back to the villages, then lets them head off to Ichiraku on their own for ramen. Then, Kakashi wonders to himself if there's been any word from Guy on how his mission is going. When Kakashi reports in to Tsunade, he tells her that he didn't see anyone following Naruto, and follows up by asking whether or not Guy has contacted her with any new information. There hasn't been, but thanks to intelligence from the Hidden Sand Village, Kakashi is sent to investigate near the border.

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (4)

Kakashi starts to worry about Guy.

There, he runs into Itachi. After a brief fight, Itachi manages to trick Kakashi and escape without giving up any information. Kakashi starts to worry about what Guy must be dealing with, so he heads back to the village quickly.

When he returns to Tsunade, he hears that Guy has been able to find the Akatsuki's hiding place and has sent back to information via Lee. Lee says that he and Guy ran into a man in a black coat near Dragon's Pool, and Guy followed him underground. Kakashi decides that he had better go after him to help Guy out. Lee asks to come along, but Kakashi refuses. Kakashi asks Lee if Guy ordered Lee to follow him, and Lee answered that he didn't, but he did order Lee to do 10,000 pushups before Guy got back. Kakashi thinks to himself that that definitely sounds like Guy. Tsunade orders Lee to get started on those pushups and she orders Kakashi to go after Guy and verify the Akatsuki's intentions.

Kakashi goes to Dragon's Pool. He sees that Lee's report was accurate, so he hopes Guy is up ahead. Kakashi runs so he can quickly catch up with Guy. Kakashi's path is blocked by a pile of boulders, so he looks around in search of a secret passageway he may have overlooked. Kakashi keeps looking around, wondering where Guy could be, when suddenly, Guy calls out that he has the drop on Kakashi this time. Kakashi looks up and notices Guy in an overhead passageway.

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (5)

Guy "has the drop on Kakashi."

Kakashi jumps up to join him, and Guy is glad to see Kakashi there, since it must mean that Lee safely got back to the village. Kakashi shrugs and tells Guy that Lee is working on his pushups.

Kakashi asks if this is indeed the Akatsuki hideout. Guy answers that Itachi is definitely there, but he's not sure about the other members. Kakashi gets onto Guy for sneaking into the hideout without ascertaining the enemy's strength and numbers first. Guy smiles and confidently answers that the point of infiltration is to find those things out in the first place. Kakashi tells Guy that this could all be a trap, which surprises Guy. Kakashi shrugs again and says they might as well keep going since they've made it this far.

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (6)

"Now that's the rival I know and love!"

Guy winks and happily says that that's the rival he knows and loves. Guy takes off and tells Kakashi to come with him. Kakashi notes to himself that even after all the years he and Guy have been together, Guy still never fails to surprise Kakashi. He finally runs after Guy.

The two go deeper into the cavern together until they happen upon Itachi again. Itachi notes that they were lured there very easily. Kakashi says he wasn't necessarily willingly lured there, but Guy says that even if it's a trap, there are times when running away just isn't an option. And now was one of those times.

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (7)

Kakashi agrees with Guy.

Kakashi shrugs, but agrees with Guy, saying that, like Guy says, this time was going to be different than the previous time he ran into Itachi. Kisame suddenly appears behind them and says that he won't be letting Kakashi leave alive this time.

They fight, and Kakashi and Guy are able to beat Itachi and Kisame. Kakashi asks them if they're going to be willing to talk about their plans now. Kisame says that he's just getting started, but Itachi tells him that they're going to be retreating for now. Kisame admits that they still have some time before the Akatsuki has to get to work here, and Kakashi takes that into consideration.

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (8)

Kakashi stops Guy from going after Itachi and Kisame.

Itachi tells Kakashi that this battle's victory is Kakashi's, then he vanishes without a trace. Guy screams and starts to run after them, but Kakashi hols out his arm and keeps Guy from pursuing Itachi. Kisame follows suit and disappears.

Guy asks Kakashi why they aren't going after them. Kakashi tells him that now isn't the time to do so. They have the information they came for, and they were able to claim this victory, so it would be best to fall back and return to the village now. Guy is reluctant, but since it's what Kakashi thinks is best, Guy agrees to go back now.

Uzumaki Chronicles KakashiSaga (9)

Guy rushes to return after Kakashi mentions that Lee is waiting for him.

Kakashi adds that Lee is probably missing Guy anyway. Guy is excited to get back to Lee, so he takes off running as soon as he hears that. Kakashi watches Guy runs and notes to himself with some amusement that the mention of Lee had managed to change Guy's mind very quickly.

Kakashi reports in to Tsunade alone. After she hears the news about the Akatsuki, Tsunade asks what happened to Guy. Kakashi answers that Guy went to Lee as soon as he got back, because he wanted to let Lee know that he was safe.

Guy turns their attention back to the barrier, asking if it's possibly to simply remove the seal. Kakashi explains that all 5 seals need to be removed at the same time, and the seal in front of them was only one of the necessary 5 they needed. Kakashi instructs Neji to search for the rest using his byakugan.

Once Neji locates the other 4 seals, Guy volunteers his team to go remove them, since Team Guy is faster than Team Kakashi is. Guy promises to contact Kakashi as soon as they remove the seals, and Kakashi agrees to the plan. Guy gives him a thumbs up, then rushes off together with his team.

Naruto runs into Guy outside of Sunagimo Estate. Surprised, he asks what Guy is doing there, and Guy laughs and admits that he plans to hold a certain showdown there. It looks interesting, so Naruto decides he'll join them to watch it play out. Kakashi sighs and tells Naruto that he won't learn anything useful from it, but he's free to watch. It turns out that the showdown is a speed-eating competition. Guy purports the ferocious merits and skills needed for speed-eating, but Naruto is unconvinced about that. However, Naruto is secretly excited for the chance to see Kakashi's face, since he'll have to move the mask to eat, so he decides that the competition sounds fun after all. Guy is happy that Naruto understands, so he urges Kakashi to get started already.

Guy bangs the table in frustration at his loss, admitting that Kakashi's speed eating far outclasses his own and calling himself a fool for choosing this as their competition. In the first letter, Guy writes to tell Naruto that he has a showdown coming up with Kakashi soon, and since Kakashi is a worthy opponent, Guy would like some advice from Naruto about how to achieve victory against him this time. The correct response to this letter is to ensure Guy that he doesn't need any advice, and that it will be much cooler when he faces Kakashi with just his instincts and abilities instead of hints.

In the second letter, Guy is motivated by Naruto's moving encouragement and is determined to take on Kakashi using just his ability, since that would be the only way he would feel like it was a true victory against his rival. The correct response to this is to cheer Guy on and say that it is impressive and really cool how he challenges the mighty Kakashi-sensei with his taijutsu skills.

In the third and final letter, Guy vows to achieve victory against Kakashi for all his students to are cheering him on.

Guy compares his hand to Kakashi, and notices that Kakashi's hand is laying flat on the ground, and is thus paper, meaning that Guy lost the match. Guy's aura extinguishes and he tearfully picks Kakashi up to piggyback him and run away crying into the distance, in a reference to the scene in the Kazekage rescue arc in which Guy carried Kakashi on his back.

Kakashi sweatdrops and stares silently at Guy. Guy explains that he is wearing the outfit to practice a new swan-based move.

Mission: Team Guy is a Go![]

Later, when Naruto and Lee are about to fight over Sakura, Guy takes the opportunity to suggest that his and Kakashi's teams go head to head in a challenge to test their skills against each other. Guy says it will be good practice before they run into the Akatsuki and that it will give their teams a chance to review their formations as well.

Kakashi agrees. He decides that their two teams will compete to see who can defeat the most of the rogue ninja based around the area. Kakashi's team wins the match. The matter of who gets Sakura remains unresolved, but Kakashi is glad that their teams got the chance to go over their formations again. They continue on their way to the Land of Rivers to help Gaara.

Once they arrive at the barrier, Team Guy fans out to find the five seals they must remove simultaneously. Guy contacts Kakashi to apologize and let him know that they messed up the process, because Lee removed his seal too soon.

Enemies appear, and Kakashi realizes that they are from a ninjutsu trap set up by a failure to properly remove the barrier. He reveals his sharingan and prepares to fight. Guy realizes the same thing on his end, becoming shocked by the fact that the enemies created are a hoard of Lee clones. The radio signal messes up, and Kakashi tells his team that they've lost contact with Guy's team.

After the Lees have been dealt with, Guy's team finishes taking down the barrier. Guy calls Kakashi, apologizes for the delay, and lets him know that their task has been completed.

Mission: I'll Be There[]

Guy, exhausted from having rushed to Kakashi's aide.

At a later point in the game, after Guy and his team have finished a mission, Pakkun runs up to them for help. Lee tries to remember Pakkun's name based on a hint from Guy. Lee guesses "Parthenon," and Neji guesses "Pacman." Tenten says the name is "Pakkun," and Neji, Lee, and Guy are all disappointed that she blurted out the answer so soon even though they weren't ready for the punchline yet. With that out of the way, Pakkun tells Team Guy that Kakashi and the others are in trouble and they need to get to them quickly.

Guy again arrives to assist Kakashi when Kakashi and his team have overexerted themselves. Just as Kakashi is worrying about how much chakra he's exhausted, Guy calls out that he's surprised to see Kakashi struggling in a fight.

Guy offers Kakashi an herbal bundle to help restore his chakra.

Kakashi is pleasantly surprised. He thanks Guy for coming and admits that there were more enemies than Kakashi had anticipated. Guy says that he and his youthful warriors are here to help Kakashi, but Guy is visibly exhausted and haggard from rushing to Kakashi, as are his students.

Kakashi's students tell Team Guy that Team Kakashi had actually just finished taking out the last of the enemies, so there was no need for help. Kakashi says that he's glad they came anyway, since Kakashi's chakra had all but run out after the long fight.

Guy gives Kakashi and thumbs up and tells him that he brought along an "elixir of youth" herbal bundle that should restore Kakashi's chakra, "among other things." Naruto tries the herbal bundle and is grossed out. Kakashi says that Guy and his team are really something.

Mission: Revenge for Sensei![]

Guy challenges Kakashi to a match, but is interrupted by his own sneezing.

Kakashi suggests they not have any competitions today, since Guy is obviously feeling under the weather.

Lee and Tenten notice their conversation and quickly realize that Kakashi and Guy are pitting themselves against each other in their rivalry again.

Guy says that he wants to compete today, here and now, regardless of his cold, because youth waits for no one. He sneezes again, and Kakashi immediately capitalizes on the chance, saying that Guy is wide open and getting behind him to perform 1000 Years of Death, which Tenten points out is just a kancho.

Kakashi says that it looks like he's won this round. In agony, Guy says that he needs to see a doctor after Kakashi went so far.

Lee is stunned that Kakashi was able to take down Guy in a single move. He vows to learn that taijutsu technique in order this avenge this "violation" of his sensei. As Guy's student, Lee decides to seek vengeance against Kakashi's student, Naruto.

Before Lee finishes off Naruto, Guy arrives and breaks up the fight. He scolds Lee, saying that Guy and Kakashi have always been rivals, so it doesn't matter that Guy lost that one match. Guy can simply win his next match with Kakashi.

Afterwards, Lee and Guy train together to master Kakashi's technique, 1000 Years of Death.

Kakashi and Guy fondly reminisce after their vacation around the Ninja World.

After the end of the war, Kakashi and Guy are now retired from active ninja duty. Rock Lee asks Boruto to have them supervise the chunin exam hall repairs that they're going to do. Lee notes that he expects that Kakashi and Guy are traveling together, so Boruto doesn't need to search for them separately. Lee explains that they had recently departed on a journey together to places that had special memories to the two of them, but they have returned to the village, so they may be somewhere where they can talk about their trip.

Kakashi advises Guy to be careful.

Boruto finds Guy and Kakashi on the hokage building's rooftop, reminiscing over their memories in the village and on their trip around the world, and remembering their time training their students. Guy says that even though they traveled to so many different places, there really would never be anywhere quite like their village.

Kakashi goes on to add that even though the village itself looks different and times are changing, the memories tied to it and to dreams that their ancestors passed onto them here continue to live on through the village and its people. Guy is deeply moved by the sentiment and agrees with Kakashi.

Kakashi notices Boruto approaching and asks why he's eavesdropping on a couple of old guys, and Boruto answers that it seemed hard to cut into their conversation, because they looked so happy together.

Guy remembers the time when he trained and fought with Naruto and Sakura, which is news to Kakashi since it occurred while he was bedridden in the hospital after the Kazekage Rescue arc. Guy mentions that training with his students and fighting with Kakashi are some of his good memories. Kakashi and Guy decide to end their trip down memory lane and go help out with the repairs. Guy is excited to passionately support the other workers, but Kakashi tells him not to embarrass himself by getting too heated up. Their time has passed, and the new generation was taking over now. Guy replies that shame isn't even a word in his dictionary. Kakashi relents.

The training hall is successfully repaired, and Kakashi and Guy can be seen standing outside of it together with Lee. Guy says that it's no surprise that it turned out so well, since he, Kakashi, and Lee were in charge of the effort.

Kakashi and Guy moved

Kakashi and Guy help Lee inspect the durability of the new stadium, and afterwards, they thank Boruto for his help and praise his skills. After Boruto leaves and Lee goes to finish the inspection, Guy and Kakashi are left to think about Naruto's son and the new generation in general.

Guy notices that Kakashi is deeply moved by how much Boruto's growing strength reminds him of Naruto. Kakashi admits that he's happy to see Boruto face tough battles and walk away with a smile still on his face, although Kakashi admits that saying it like that must make him sound old and sentimental.

Guy says it actually makes Kakashi sound like an old grandpa. Kakashi says that that's going a bit too far.

Kakashi and Guy have a number of cards that feature them together or allude to moments they had together in the series.

Naruto x Boruto: Ninja Tribes[]

Ninjatribes kakagai combo attack

Kakashi and Guy's joint jutsu, "Eternal Rivals!!"

Guy and Kakashi appear together in the same banner. They have a Tribe Special together, which unleashes their powerful, unique linked jutsu on the battlefield. Tribe Specials are described as "extremely powerful ninjutsu, manifested by the bonds between shinobi!"

The 5-star arts for Kakashi (Of the Sharingan Eye) and Guy (Green Savage Beast) are designed to mirror one another, with the exact same poses, angles, and lighting.

Guy's solo jutsu is Asa Kujaku, and Kakashi's solo jutsu is Raikiri. Using them together activates their linked jutsu, "Eternal Rival!!" which plays out similarly to how it has in some earlier games. Kakashi uses his Lightning Hound jutsu while Guy uses his Hirudora. Guy's tiger enveloped Kakashi's hound, and the two merge together to form an even stronger, explosive attack that hits all active enemies for massive damage. Using the link attack boosts Kakashi and Guy's Damage Increase Rates and Damage Reduction Rates for the rest of the battle.

When updated to an EX Tribe Special, the animation for Kakashi and Guy's link attack is extended slightly, with an added scene of Kakashi and Guy screaming passionately in unison together as the attack hits the enemies.

"Eternal Rival!!" is the link attack that Kakashi and Guy have in this game. Before the Season 9 update, it was the only link attack that either Kakashi or Guy had, making them each the exclusive link partner available at first. For the original UR version of Kakashi Hatake, Eternal Rival!! remains the only possible link jutsu.

After the Season 9 update, Hot-Blooded Friends' Piggyback was aded. This is another link attack with several variations was added, which uses Kakashi Hatake (Mangekyo Sharingan), Guy, and one of their students, including Rock Lee, Sakura, Naruto, Tenten, or Neji. Each variation with the different students has a different effect, ranging from stat boosts to healing.

Guy catches Kakashi as he falls.

In Hot-Blodded Friends' Piggyback, Kakashi uses Kamui to send the opponent away. He then staggers tiredly from using the jutsu. Guy immediately notices Kakashi falling back and rushes to catch him. He then grins and picks Kakashi up on his back in a piggyback ride. Kakashi and Guy stand in the spotlight together while the student accompanying them gawks with a personalized reaction, based on the student.

Ninja tribes piggyback reaction - lee

Lee reacts to Kakashi and Guy's piggyback ride.

When teamed up with Naruto, the attack is Hot-Blooded Friends' Piggyback "What are they doing?" With Sakura, the variation is called "That's just weird..." With Tenten, the variation is called "Err... What?!" With Neji, the variation is called "..." And with Lee, the variation is called "A training drill!!" In each variation, the student stands and stares in reaction to Guy giving Kakashi his piggyback ride. Each one except Lee is gawking and sweatdropping, while Lee clenches his fist and stares at the duo in admiration.

Ninja tribes rivals (8)

Guy says he feels "subtle ardor" when he's competing with Kakashi.

The EX version of Hot-Blooded Friends' Piggyback includes a scene of Guy running with Kakashi hanging off his back, very similar to the scene from the series.

Kakashi and Guy also work together as raid bosses against alliances.

When Kakashi and Guy are both unlocked, Rock Lee receives a link bonus to his defense stat.

Ninja tribes linkbonus kakashi

When Asuma is unlocked, Guy increases Kakashi's HP stat, and Kakashi increases Guy's Defense stat.

During the tutorial that introduces the player to the Ninja Arena, Naruto mentions that this is a feature to battle your rivals. He mentions that speaking about rivals makes him thinking about Kakashi and Guy specifically. Naruto recalls the rivalry they shared.

Guy appears and challenges Kakashi to a match, and Kakashi says they shouldn't do it today. Guy says that youth wouldn't wait for them, and asks Kakashi if something is wrong. Since Guy doesn't seem to be taking no for an answer, so Kakashi relents, much to Guy's delight. Guy says that competing with his rival while they both become stronger and "subtle ardor" are the essence of youth. He asks Kakashi to decide what they'll compete in.

Rock Lee's link bonus 2

Lee's link bonus is unlocked by the combination of Kakashi and Guy.

Naruto ends the memory by saying that their rivalry was very intense. Naruto continues to say that he agrees with Guy and can vouch that having a strong rival helps personal growth, comparing it to himself and Sasuke.

Kakashi and Guy both allow a stat boost in the other when they have been unlocked. In Kakashi's third link bonus, Kakashi's HP stat is increased by 20% when Asuma and Guy have been unlocked with him. In Guy's second link bonus, Guy's defense stat is increased by 20% when Asuma and Kakashi have been unlocked with him.

There are some other characters who receive a boost because of the combination of Kakashi and Guy being unlocked. Rock Lee's second link bonus unlocks when Kakashi and Guy have both been unlocked together, and increases Lee's defense by 20%. Asuma's first link bonus is unlocked with Kakashi and Guy, and increases his attack stat by 20%.

"Why am I in this costume...?"

In-game, Kakashi and Guy are together behind Gaara on one of the activity icons on the screen, and there is a stage featuring the player's team fighting against a team consisting of Kakashi, Lee, and Guy teamed up together.

For the sixth anniversary, narucole featured art of Team Kakashi dressed up in the outfit from their corresponding counterpart in Team Guy, including Kakashi wearing Guy's green jumpsuit and open flak jacket, along with a matching costume green mask over his face.

The first day of the celebration countdown featured a banner of Kakashi dressed as Guy, sighing and saying "Why am I in this costume...?" The card for this skin was released shortly afterwards. The version of Kakashi in the game that wears Guy's jumpsuit also has a moveset that imitates Guy's taijutsu.

  • Kakashi: "C'mon, don't say that! Let's give it our all!"

On the mission, Road to Ninja

  • Minato: "Kakashi, take point. I want you to use your sharingan to look for any danger."
  • Kakashi: "Yes, sir. Or so I'd like to say... I was excited an had my sharingan active this whole time, so..."
  • Minato: "You always get tired at crucial times."
  • Guy: "I need a break, too. Why does an old man like me need to do this?"
  • Minato: "I guess we have no choice. Let's take a break."

  • Lee: "Next week is 'Tenten vs Temari' and 'Orochimaru’s Search For Love!'"
  • Kakashi: "Hm?"
  • Guy: "Is that so?"
  • Lee: "You’re not curious? Look, even Orochimaru wants to get married! You and the other senseis should think about settling down too!"
  • Kakashi (nervously): "I-I’m more interested in reading the final book in the Make-Out Tactics series."
  • Guy (nervously): "Y-yeah, I’m too busy with my training, I’ve got no time to date."
  • Lee: "I hear those are common excuses for men who are too old to find a wife…"
  • Kakashi & Guy: ?!?!?!

The Adventures of Naruto!…Oh, and Everyone Else Too! / One on One: Every Genin For Themselves![5]

  • Guy: "We have a few stories to tell as well, don’t we, Kakashi?"
  • Kakashi: "You bet. But you go first. We’ll save the best for last."
  • Guy: "Hmmm… Heh. So, even this is a competition, huh? Well, alright then!"
  • Kakashi: "Yes, Guy?"
  • Guy: "Some people think a story must have fighting and daring deeds! But the true story often occurs before the fighting even begins! 'One-on-one: Every genin for themselves!' Now admit it, you didn't see that little twist coming, did you?"
  • Kakashi: "Actually, Guy, in case you forgot, I do have the Sharingan."
  • Guy: "Touche... Alright, Kakashi, we'll call this round a draw, but it's not over yet. The first preliminary match, now that is a story."
  • Kakashi: "Oh, good, I was wondering when it was my turn."
  • Guy: "Yeah, but the, uh-"
  • Kakashi: "He is my student, after all."
  • Guy: "...Alright. Although, in a way, it's about my student, too..."
  • Kakashi: "Right. My student used your student’s technique. But in a unique way."
  • Guy: "Oh, let’s just get to the match!"
  • Kakashi: "Sasuke had a huge disadvantage because of that curse mark. He couldn’t use his most powerful technique. And since we’re on the subject of students who did well…"
  • Guy: "Ugh..."
  • Kakashi:"I can’t help it. My students are all over this thing. Sakura wanted to prove to Ino that she was the better kunoichi, and she was on the verge of proving just that. It really got Ino’s ponytail in a twist. That’s the moment she showed me what she’s made of."
  • Guy: "Your student did come awfully close to winning, didn’t she?"
  • Kakashi: "But she didn’t lose, either. And then there’s my number one hyperactive knucklehead ninja."
  • Guy: "Alright! We get the idea. They’re good."
  • Kakashi: "Naruto was getting beat up pretty badly. At least, at first. He ain’t pretty, but he’s effective."
  • Guy: "Kakashi, Kakashi, all these stories about how good his students are, they’re really all about him!"
  • Kakashi: "Uh, Guy? Are you going to tell this story? Or are you too busy daydreaming?"
  • Guy: "Ugh… Alright, I’ll handle this one! Both of them had tricks up their sleeves. The next match was with–"
  • Kakashi: "Whoa, Guy. My turn."
  • Guy: "Ugh..."
  • Kakashi: "She wanted to prove there was more to her than Neji thought. Neji was too much for her. Still, in a way, she won, just by not giving up."
  • Guy: "Finally, we get to hear about my prodigy, Rock Lee!"
  • Kakashi: "Oh, yeah. I’m trying to remember how that one turned out."
  • Guy: "Lee was so amazing! His taijutsu was so fast, even Gaara was worried! Oh, but Gaara was tougher than he thought… It looked like there was no way to stop him. A lesser shinobi would have given up. But Lee opened the inner gates and summoned a hidden resource of awesome power! But even that wasn’t enough to stop Gaara! That’s why I did what I did."

  • Guy: "Haha. I have a plan to battle against the Sharingan. Win number 51 is MINE!"

  • Boruto: "Kakashi? The guy who was the previous Hokage, and the leader of my father’s team? Why do you need those two?"
  • Lee: "For this job, we need someone who can give workers clear instructions, as well as someone who possesses a passionate initiative! Kakashi and Guy-sensei are the perfect men for those jobs!"
  • Boruto: "I see. …Okay, I’ll find them and bring them back, but do you have any idea where I might find them?"
  • Lee: "You want a hint, huh? Hm… They just recently departed on a journey to locations that were connected to special memories they have together. They should have returned to the village by now though… Hmmm. Maybe they’re discussing their memories together somewhere."
